    Hook Sharpening

On my past 2 trips I missed over a dozen fish… improper hook set? technique? just a bad day? stuff happens?
A few specks, a few bass, maybe a unicorn or 2, and at least 5 reds each over 25”. Whatever the reason is, I need to figure it out.
So maybe it’s time to sharpen my hooks.

Should I buy a fancy sharpener? Or just use a small file? Or just sand paper or emery cloth? Any tips on how to sharpen them?
    Any input is greatly appreciated.

My son got me one of these many years ago. https://www.amazon.com/Berkley-HS2-P...hook+sharpener
Does the trick. I also use a Dremel tool with a stone wheel to sharpen hooks when needed. A little quicker than the Berkley sharpener.

Been there done that. I use a simple stone with a grove in it, a couple of swipes and i'm good to go. I sharpen my hooks every trip as I'm pedaling out. I can't use a dull hook as an excuse anymore.

I keep a small file in the kayak and try to give the hooks on my poles a few strokes before I launch.
