Need some education on life preservers/floatation device for kayakers/fisherman. What is being recommended as some of the better ones (brands)? What is a better choice for kayaks? Slim style automatic/manual horse collars or the vest style? Not sure if the bulk of the vest style would bother me or not. My safety is #1. I’m open to both types. Can you give me some pro/cons for both?
***EARLY BIRD ENTRY DEADLINE IS MAY 20, 2012***

15TH ANNUAL
SAVE OUR LAKE & COAST FISHING RODEO
FRIDAY & SATURDAY,
JUNE 1 &2

OK guys and gals. I've talked the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation into adding a yak division to their rodeo. Now all we have to do is get plenty of yaks entered so we can continue to maintain the category for future years. All yakers entered will compete in the regular adult categories--because there's nothing better than beating boaters out of a floating piece of plastic!

However, all yakers entered will also compete amongst themselves for a special kayak category. The winner in that category will be the "Kayak Kahuna" and there will also be a 2nd and 3rd place.

The rodeo is a great value and supports a great cause. If you enjoy fishing Lake Pontchartrain, you have the Basin Foundation to thank for the great water quality! Please help show that the kayak fishing community supports this worthy cause.

Fishing boundaries are the entire Pontchartrain Basin which includes all lakes, bays and marshes from Manchac to Breton Sound on the east side of the Mississippi River.

The rodeo is on Friday and Saturday June 1 and 2. You can fish either day or both.
Tickets are only $50 and include a rodeo T-shirt, LPBF membership-($25 value), two entrance tickets to the Back to The Beach Festival (and rodeo awards)- ($20 value). Early bird entries will also receive a Weston Electric filet knife as a bonus -(value $20). It's the best rodeo deal going.

At the awards ceremony on Saturday June 2, we’ll have a Q&A session with Captains Eric Dumas, Chas Champagne, Greg Schlumbrecht and CT Williams. The Q&A session will be moderated by Todd Masson of laspecks.com.

Kids under 16 can enter the youth division for only $15. The first 75 kids to enter will receive a free RodnReel sponsored by WWL-TV.

Rodeo organizers will be at the Chag’s Tent Sale in Metairie this Friday through Sunday, May 18-20 and early-bird registrants can sign up and pick up their knives and kids’ rod and reels there.

For more information, go to: www.saveourlake.org

Thanks,

I took off the rudder and foot pegs. The rudder will probably go on my Ride 135, and i'm going to order some new pegs from Harmony.

I filled a bunch of little holes with the duct-tape-behind-goop-in-the-hole method. Taking a page out of Kayak Kevin Whitley's book, i painted the nose and cockpit a dark, flat green. It's still a bright color to anyone else, but from where i sit, it looks like i'm fishing out of a dark boat. Less glare.

The seat it came with was a Surf to Summit Airwave, with an inflatable bottom. It had been torn and repaired but needed help. It also held water pretty bad. I've sent it back to StS, and for $15 they'll replace the cushion with the GTS Elite one. I'm using this one that's normally on my Ride until the other comes back.

I changed out the anchor trolley so that it goes all the way to the nose. I also like a thicker rope; this one isn't my favorite because it stretches when it's wet, but i had it on hand, so it'll do for now.
I have looked at many from the web. Only rode in the trident 13 but looked at several.
