View Full Version : Club Get Together July 31st

Tefishmaster and I have been talking about a club get together (not to be confused with a regular meeting) somewhere like maybe a fish fry (anybody got fish) or something fairly simple cooking wise. We could do it at one of the parks (something with plenty of shade trees).
Thoughts / suggestions ???? Any interest???

We have a nice park on Denham Close to the interstate and that should be about the same distance for everyone! I will be glad to fire up the frier!

I'd suggest we do it near a fishing hole...fish, then cook & eat...

The group camp area is off of the water, no where near the lake and does not have a kitchen readily available. It is in another building.
Fountainbleu cabins are $90 per night minimum 2 night stay on weekends. Cabins sleep up to 8 and are directly on the water. They have 12 cabins. Each cabin has a bath, kitchen, living and sleeping areas along with screened porches with picnic tables.

I'd like to have something that either we could fish in the am and eat lunch or have the whole family come or both. Suggestions..?

I agree. Either a family type get together or an early fishing trip would be good.

We had a BBQ at Fountainbleau Sate Park last year. We did a little tourney in the am and then gathered at a pavillion for the cooking and eating and it was nice. Was a little disappointed on the turn out but we had a good time. There is a beach there and some playground equipment for the kids. That is pretty central for most. The hardest thing was papawd got this huge BBQ pit and that was nice but that also was a lot of trouble and very hot to cook on and fool with afterwards. I would like to keep it somewhat simple some kind of way. I am open for suggestions in that area as well.
How does the Fountainbleau State Park sound again? We could do a tourney or something with the yaks for those that wanted to (At least there is no oil there yet). Comments??? Suggestions???

Yes the turnout was week at best for a club this size, Alot of work went into that weekend, I could prolly get the BBQ pit again but I remember us giving food away. John and I tried this twice over the last 2 years and the first time never really got off the ground. If we do this lets try and get a confirmation of who all will show up before we even get rollling some type of way......just food for thought

Fountainbleau is awesome, you can schedule a hayride at night that drives around shining a bright light on lots of deer walking around the park, And the racoons are waiting for an oppertunity to rob you of your food, beware,, I had a lot of fun the last time I was there, A lot wild stories around the camp fire too was very funny too,
Did you know an Astroid hit Jupiter this week and left and impression the size of he Pacific Ocean?

Thought...cooking is fun and I'd be willing to assist, BUT Corky's will do bbq, buns, beans, slaw, chips, brownies and plates/plasticware, for less than $10 a person. You can let them know your numbers the day before...and they'll deliver to the table.
We've done this for a couple of golf tournaments on the NS, when the clubs F&B operations were closed and it's a no-brainer.
I will reiterate that cooking is fun...and I'll assist, if that's the decided option. Nuttin' better than some chicken, sausage, ribs, etc...from the grill.

As long as it is before school gets going (2nd week of Aug) I'm in + wife and kids. I can throw in a couple of galons of fish filets, if we go that route. I like the Fountainebleau SP idea.

I think Fountainbleau will be the place since it worked so well last go round and has water close by and lot of trees (shade) and the pavilion. We just need to pick a couple of dates that works for everyone and move forward. I would think latter part of July or first week in August? Comments....

I am thinking of a Saturday rather than a Sunday and that way the Rev might could make it. How does July 31st work as a first pick for everyone ( I know any date you pick is going to be bad for someone but we will try) ?? We will also need to talk about menu....fry fish, BBQ or pot luck???

July 31st works for me. I haven't been to FSP since I was a kid in the sixties and my parents packed me off to St. Paul's along with the rest of the badasses looking to see who could get more whippings from those Christian Brothers. Brother Austin was a pro!
I'll be glad to help in supplying food, setup, teardown, cleaning ... however I can assist. Maybe we can start a signup list for chores and equipment needed to help keep things organized.

For 24 years she has not had near the fun should would as being part of the BCKFC annual get together lol. Heck there is even a campground there for a romantic evening prior  ...just saying. Oh and by the way, you can still bring beers! :buttrock:

I just checked the Fountainbleu site for reservations. Both the cabins and the group camp areas are booked up for that weekend. But we could still probably get a pavilion. There are plenty of campsites still available. But we need to set a date because I think they are going to fill up too.

What would you want to eat? Do y'all want to try and fry fish (I don't have any), cook burgers, sausage, dogs, or something else (suggestions)? I would like it to be something that fairly easy to do so everyone can enjoy the gathering and not pin a few people to cooking whatever it might be.
Maybe even a pot luck lunch / picnic - everyone cook / bring a dish or so and we see what we got?
Thoughts.....

Branch,
Out by the school were I work I jokingly call it the redneck yatch club. It's the launch on Airline, Blind River. They have a covered pavillion, launch, and rest rooms. Kinda in the middle of everyone I think.
Brechtel Park in Algiers has a pond, covered pavillion, I think bathrooms (can check on that).

This would be the St. James Parish Boat club. The facilities are nice there and the pavillion is pretty big.

At Fountainbleau i stayed for a BoyScouts overnight trip and we stayed in the boyscout area. This is an open area that we all brought pop-up tents and put them together for coverage.
Would this be something we can consider as opposed to the pavilion?

Last time I was there they had some deer in a fenced in area. I think they also had a playground for kids but not sure on that one. It might have changed since I was there last though. The launch gives you access to Blind River if anyone wanted to fish. Not sure of the quality of fishing in that stretch of Blind River but it looks like a nice place for the fly rod.

Possibly, if there were enuff trees / shade we would not need the pavillion. The other questions is how do they charge for that area? Let me check on that and report back. Don't get me wrong I really like Fountainbleau it is just finding the area that will handle us and the date.
