View Full Version : RIGOLETS?
I was wondering how the fishing was in the rigolets? I was thinking about launching around the rigolets bait and tackle shop and fishing the marsh right there. If it is a good idea what would be an ideal bait or baits to use?

JK -- I stopped by the bait shop the other day and had lunch. The owner said he has kayaks launch there ($5.00) and protected parking. When you get to the end of the canal from the back down go left. Fish the grass lines until you get back a ways and then the canal opens up to broken marsh. He had live shrimp when I was there last. Try topwater early and then move to soft plastics under a popping cork or bounced off the bottom. August and September fish the area where the old bridge was blown up and dropped to the bottom. Did really well there last Sept., nice trout on live shrimp on the bottom. Be prepared to loose tackle in the riprap on the bottom.

Just west of new bridge. Look at bank and you can kinda see where bridge crossed while it was up.

If it's the old I-10 bridge you're talking about I'm familiar. I was thinking there was some other bridge that may have been demolished before.

I've been working that area for the past few weeks. Unfortunately I haven't been able to fish. I've talked to a lot of people at the launch, they say they have been limiting on nice trout at the railroad trestles just north of of the GICW. Not sure exactly how far it is, but it would be quite a paddle and you would have to watch the weather. It would be a great place to mothership, lot's of "fishy" looking spots.

idunno -- The old bridge is on the bottom on the Lake Borgne side of the new high rise over the Rigolets. The new bridge right there by Fort Pike parellels the old bridge. I fished no more than 100 or so feet from the new bridge.

Is there any reason to why I'm not able to view the map?
I am not able to view it either! I think it is because we are just junior members and not actual bckfc members.

Correct. Junior members are limited in what they can see and in forum access. You are missing the very best dialog - secret fishin' holes, special secret handshakes, etc.

+1 on what Snake Doctor said. Small price to pay to get the "secret handshake" lol. Seriously, well worth the small price of admission.

Got it Joe, thanks for the map. It is exactly what I thought after FishnTed's explanation. Went with a buddy of mine last summer and fished the old bridge in his stinkpot when it was still up. Caught a nice mess of drum up to 22" that day. Definitely gonna have to get out there in the yak and give it a shot.

Joe that rocks thanks. I grew up paddling that area in a piroque - caught more bass than reds in the little Island next to the fort.

I'm gonna try to make it out there Saturday - and a slim chance on Friday. Have to head away with the Army again for a couple of weeks so I need to get my fix while I can!!!!!

Both the Lake Catherine Marina and the Rigolet's Bait and Tackle have live bait. They also each only charge $5 for a kayak launch.

alright so if I were to make my first trip out to the rigolets (which it will be), I would plan on launching at the rigolets bait and tackle shop, and from there it gets fuzzy. Should I move up towards double bayou lagoon or down towards the highway 90 bridge? All of this is coming from me looking at google earth

If you are going to the Rigolet's Bait and Tackle Launch then see this first map. Try down near Stump Lagoon.
But considering it has not been too windy you may want to launch at the Lake Catherine Marina and fish the area around the island shown on this second map.
was checking out map to see where possible launch ramps are off hwy 90 in the lake st. catherine area preferably in the southern region or maybe other spots that might be productive. Does anyone have any input?

Not to be petty, and I may be wrong, but it is the Ponchatrain side of the new bridge and not the Borgne side. The Borgne side is Fort Pike. It is on the other side isn't it, away from Fort Pike.

Thanks joe, as much as I'd love to see the pics my junior member status isn't letting me see them.

Hey guys instead of starting a new thread I thought I'd reply here. I was thinking if hitting up the fort pike area later today and was wondering what you guys think is the best way to fish it. Do you fish right in front of the actual fort? Thanks for input I'm really learning a lot thanks to this site
