I know there has been some interest in the Delorme products and at this time they are offering some refurbished units that may be worth your while. They are color handhelds with the card, card reader, and topo maps software. Its a complete system for $100.00 plus 9.00 shipping and tax. They usually sell between 175.00 and 200.00

I purchase a Lowrance Endura Outback with the Navionics Gold Charts for work and to be honest, I am not impressed. I might be interested in this Delorme product. That being said, if you had your choice of GPS units, which one would you buy?

For the price I am thinking about getting one personally. I am going to read up on it somemore today but 99% sure I am getting one as I need a handheld anyway.

I have a related question. I just bought a handheld unit (Garmin Vista HCX) used from a buddy. It has no maps on it. Any ideas on how i can get some local maps for it without spending $160.00 by purchasing a SD card from Garmin?

Possibly copy a card from someone you know? Or is it protected?
