You should see the Magnolia label on google maps south of West Point A-La Hache and north of Port Sulphur. Magnolia is a much better spring and summer hole though. Almost all the reports coming from there at this time of year talk about No fish, lots of mud and dirty water. Also the guy that leases the land does a lot of duck hunting now so we as the club tend to stay out of the way at this time of year.
Where are you located at new2fly? There are a lot of other places we can suggest that are also good for new kayakers.

head to the coast! The water is clear, and there are plenty of fish to throw flies at. For me magnolia was a late spring summer spot to sight fish reds. Its become too crowded for my liking, and thankfully there are many other places like it.

thank you guys for the quick responses. I live in the New Orleans area and have been fishing the hopedale area for about 3 years out of a kayak and boat. I have started fishing myrtle grove and like the area a lot for redfish. I have not had one trout but I really like reds. I have not been to hopedale in a while so I have no idea how it is producing right now but with the front coming through this weekend i have a feeling will be tough anywhere

Mag in my opinion = Overrated
I have had more disappointing trips there than successful.

Probably do better going a little further down to Yellow Cotton Bay
Magnolia more of a Hit, MISS, miss, miss, miss type of place lately.
used to be agood place but lately to many people down there.
Prolly gonna fish other places.

Anyone been down to Yellow Cotton lately? With the MS river being up, I'd expect the water to be dirty down there. Might make it tough to sight fish.
