Well guys, I was planning on heading down Hwy 1 b/w fourchon and GI Monday morning, but I might be needin' a backup plan just in case. All ya'lls reports from PP7, which I couldn't get off work for :hide: , got me wanting to get down there. I am itchin to put some slime from a salty on the new canoe (only freshwater fish so far).

I know the north side of Hwy 1 "should" be "fine" but just in case, how does the mouth of Bayou Lacombe fish this time of year? is it too fresh right now? I've never been out there - it looks nice and convenient, but I know it doesn't take much to get the lake rockin and rollin. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Mouth of the bayou all depends on the wind direction and tide. I haven't checked, but if the tide is falling hard and there isn't a South wind, you can often just stand at the end of Lake Rd and cast at the mouth of the small canal and catch trout. Otherwise, Surfmonkey and Jonalford are the big time Bayou Lacombe fishermen.

Thanks Paulup,
I don't think the wind will be much of a factor monday - supposed to be less than 5 mph (but when does the wind ever do what it is supposed to do). And I think the tide will be rising throughout the day and not much ~ 1/2 a foot at the Tchefuncte. I guess I'll just wait and see what is going on on the coast before making any decisions. Thanks guys,

I fished bayou lacombe on tuesday morning and caught 3 nice flounder and a some small trout. I fished around the cuts in the bayou for the flounder and caught the trout closer to the middle of the bayou.

Thanks brk for the positive report. Do ya'll launch at the big launch or do ya'll go all the way down to the end of lake road? It looks like (from google maps) that once at the end of lake road, there aren't many cuts/ponds/broken marsh - it looks kinda like a solid shoreline. is this true or are these pics old? Thanks again for all ya'lls help.

I launched off the side of the road past the launch right before you get to the camp on the left side of the road. It's 300 yards past the launch maybe less. It just saves a little paddling time, and you don't have to worry about getting in the way of launching motor boaters.

Hey guys hate to bring this up again but I've been craving to get some bayou lacombe fishing in. I was wondering to what kind of bait set up will have me with the best chance of landing some fish. I'm a seasoned bass fisherman but not so much on the saltwater side. All help appreciated!

Blue/purple and chartreuse plastics, or live shrimp/minnows are the only thing i've had much luck using in Lacombe. If you see black drum schooling as they do there from time to time, park the boat, net a crab, and use half of it as bait on the bottom.

Thanks man I picked up some "opening night" split tail shads. I plan on working a chartreuse zara spook at first and then I guess work the shads on a jig head or work a speckulizer. Am I on the right track? And for the whole drum thing its perfect because I've already got some cracked crab

I am glad this thread has been revived. After first posting this, a buddy and I ended up heading to Bayou Cane (or Cane Bayou). It was a beautiful paddle and we caught a few sunfish. When we made it to the lake, there was a hard sand bottom and grass beds everywhere - I could see a ton of mullet and gar. I then realized I had never fished this habitat before.....I am used to the muddy marshes of SELA. My question is how do I fish these grass beds and hard sand bottom and crystal clear water? Thanks for any insight.

paulup thanks for that tip! A bud and I pedaled out to the mouth of the bayou and parked it up on a beach right on the lake. Brought a crab trap with us and used the cracked little'uns for bait. Casted out with a carolina and let sit. 10 minutes later he landed a massive 12 lb sheepshead! Total catch being 2 gafftop and the sheepshead wasn't too bad of a trip. Anything else to suggest to improve out chances?
