I hope to get with our newly elected board and work something out where we can have a definitive scheduled event in spring and fall. Members of the area fly fishing clubs are also interested in this event, so this can be an opportunity to collabrorate.

For spring, I'm thinking late April as the water clarity is still very good and the winds typically are down from March. I've also done very well for specks in late April. Saturday, April 21 or 28 are the best available dates.

For fall BackCast, the best available dates not conflicting with club events would be Saturday, October 13 or Saturday, November 3.

I'd like to see us do Highway 1 in the spring, and Highway 23 or Hopedale/Delacroix in the fall.

Also, I think the "category/categories" needs to be different than Series/Outcast events. Fly fishing is a game where each species is targeted with finesse. It doesn't lend itself well to a mixed bag. For that reason, I'd prefer to see different categories for this event. For example, "Biggest Red", "Biggest Speck", "Biggest Flounder", "Biggest Other", or similiar.

Feedback, anyone?

These sound good to me. I especially like the individual catagorie idea.

+1; sounds like a good start.

Maybe a new "fly fishing only" from kayak tournament would stimulate participation from BCKFCers. Perhaps we could recruit Orvis, Uptown Angler, Bass Pro, and other sponsors. I think a number of members are interested in fly fishing but don't yet have the confidence to leave home without conventional tackle when tournaments come around. Maybe this would get them double haulin'.

I keep saying this, but I'm really hoping to do more fly fishing and put my Orvis Power Matrix TLS to use. If my schedule allows, I'd definitely be interested in participating in some fly only events. Hopefully, they won't be scheduled too close to PP or FNT time-wise.
I like the idea of one of the events in the Hopedale/Delacroix area. If we do it in the fall, maybe we could include a bass category. There were enough caught in Hopedale lagoon this year for IFA and Where-Y'ak that I think that's a viable option. Most I believe were caught while targeting reds or flounder so it shouldn't be too hard to catch them on a fly.

I really like the idea of setting specific dates for it, and hopefully the proposed dated will work better for wind as well..

I would really like to fish the one tomorrow, but there is now way I can make it happen right now..
If I had been able to get it on the calendar and plan around it, it gives me a better shot with my work schedule..
