I started in a canoe as a kid and had one my first year in this club way back in the day. All paddle and peddle are welcome. So, Welcome!
I've never fished that area so I don't have much to help you with there, but if you want to venture out a bit holler at me and I'll point you to some Northshore spots..

Never heard of the place, but don't let the canoe thing deter you from joining the fun. Heck, you can throw a trolling motor on there (or not, doesn't matter) and cruise along all day at one of our less than formal Outcast events. It's a great way to meet other paddlers in the region. Also if you a user on here by the name Kurt_Loup, you need to keep an eye on his posts as he also builds some beautiful canoes amongst other things.
This was his latest build, worth a look

There are some really nice spots around the hwy 11, Lake Catherine, Irish Bayou area that in the right weather conditions might be canoe friendly. Post up when you're going out and I'm sure someone will be more than happy to show you around the area. As mentioned before, check out the "Outcast" events. Great get-togethers with a more relaxed atmosphere. $10 buy-in if you want a shot at winning a few dollars. Next one is at Lake Catherine Marina.

Bayou La branch is the bayou just east of the bonnet carre spillway. I take the east guide levee all the way down to lake P. and fish the mouth, its produces some fish mostly drum species reds, croaker, black drum. I have seen trout running but they dont like me. the water is very shallow and the fish spook really easy along the lakes shore but as you enter the bayou the canal is pretty deep around 15 feet or more. from what people tell me the bayou is fresh but the tide pushes in and out so I would assume that it is really brakish at least close to the opening. never really explored the whole bayou yet so i dont know for sure.

I prefer chasing reds over trout anyway. What time of year do you fish that area? it's much closer to home than heading down to Fourchon or Leeville.
