any good water big enough for Ya to paddle, this will allow You to fish and think of where Ya want all things laid out in Your Yak (rod holders, depth finder etc.) If ya need any help in these rigging or ideas I live in Rosedale not to far away and can help Ya out

I live in Destrehan and fish the lake and spillway whenever I get a chance. It can be a great place to learn but not the best to find fish.

"Best" location?

I'd suggest a place with people around just in case you need help. It isn't likely but if it became necessary, help would be nice to have.

Joshua's Marina @ Buras?

"Best" plan - hook up with one of our folks and go with them.

PAC Wildile Management Area. Choice #1

There are no boats with motors over 25 HP allowed. Wide open areas and you could stay within eyesight of Island Road to keep yourself comfortable and keep your bearings while you learn.

Golden Meadow Public Launch Choice #2

Lots of small canals with light boat traffic and a big chance of catching a red

Welcome Maddman!

Yak-a-lou is right....Joshua's is (or was) a great place to start out. Unfortunately it is on the wrong side of the Empire Canal, which is now a closed area due to the spill.

This is Louisiana, and there are still lots of good places open for fishing in spite of the spill. A few of us may try the Rigolets Marina off Highway 90 on Tuesday morning. This may be a bit of a ride for you, but you are welcome to come. In fact, every member that I know of welcomes company. Feel free to join in on a trip.

Your best bet is to post to and/or watch the Hook Up forum.

Welcome aboard! The best thing about this club is the friendship. How I got hooked was I found this site and wanted to learn and Yakalou, Kingfish, and someone else invited me for my first trip. Been hooked since. We went to Bason's which is another easy area. Let the board know when you are looking to go and someone will invite you. Also keep an eye on the "hook up" forum for when someone is going and go enjoy.

Just ask and one of the guys will take care of you, I have just got started good myself, but this bunch has walked me through the process to the point of catching a fish now and then myself.

Great bunch of guys on here. Just post up when you're going and I'm sure someone will be glad to offer to show you around. I wouldn't mind showing you myself, but you'd better ask someone else if you want to catch some fish.

As far as locations, I would probably agree that Joshua's and Pointe Aux Chenes are pretty hard to beat. Alot of the people here like Magnolia for summer-time redfish action, but I haven't had great luck there.

Post up in the "Hook-up" section when you want to go and someone will likely jump on the chance to help a newbie slime his yak for the first time.

Yep that is the only reason Josua's wasn't #2 on my list.

Looks like Joshua's is open again. Change #456318.

madman, I'm in Prairieville too. Thinking about going after some catfish again in bayou Manchac sometime soon. Only got one the last time I ran my jug-lines. Would be going at night, but it's really quiet out there with no boat traffic.
