If you pay the $25 annual membership, it will open a whole new section of the forum that is well worth that and more. There are maps available to members only along with a member's section where we post fishing reports, etc... Lots of good reports coming out right now. I can't imagine you'd be sorry you spent the $25.

Right now, just find clear salty water. Get out in the lake and hit em up. Bayou Lacombe should be ripe pretty soon if not already hot. Get down to Joshuas and look for oyster reefs and into the marsh to the south. You are bound to tie into all 3 you seek.

Ask the person who got you into fishing. They usually have more info stored away in their heads than you could imagine. Just ask the right open-ended questions.

Sorry for your loss. Trout are hot now in the close-in marsh. Trout transition from the spawning grounds of summer (often out of reach of kayaks because they go to higher salinity areas on the further edges of the marsh) to the interior marsh where most spend the winter. They will feed heavily now, especially until the shrimp head offshore for winter. Plus, cold waters slow their movements and urge to feed. Then they are on a finfish diet. Find current around points and choke points where water is funneling out into larger bodies of water. These are good places to look for feeding trout as they ambush the bait coming down the current. The mouths of these funnels confuse the water and bait and the trout are usually either directly in the current or on the edge of it. If you have family members who fish, pester them for details around the holidays. You should have them cornered over turkey dinners. :) Any friends or relatives that kayak fish often? Do they have buddies that are knowledgeable? I learned places to fish by trial/error and help of others by comparing where and when we went. Once you learn some of the patterns, the places to fish seem endless. I feel that I can launch anywhere and within a small amount of exploring and observing, I can figure out the fish. I am new to this site as well. Loads of info, but you can't expect people to give up their hard-earned knowledge of areas. However, you can find enough help to point you in the right direction.

thanks for the tips...and isnt it true that when it gets too cold that trout go lock-jaw for a while? and my friends dont kayak, they go out in flat boats.

The trout definitely slow down in the winter, but they still gotta eat. Try fishing deep holes in the morning, slowly bouncing smaller Jigs off the bottom. Did I say slowly? I meant sloooooowly.
Later in the day, look for oyster flats near those same holes. The trout will come up on them first to feed, but don't like to stray too far from the warmer water in the holes, so the proximity between those two features is key.

He's my lil' cousin. I brought him out a few times in my WS Commander and now he is addicted. He has done pretty good so far, and I am hoping he will be able to fish in the Where Ya At tournament on the 19th(depends on football).
If I am feeling nice he may get to use my Outback....just gotta hope he doesn't drink the Hobie kool-aid.

Fished with him in Hopedale on Saturday, then he returned to his gated community on the shores of beautiful Mississippi Sound in Gulfport. (Still no fishing reports from Mississippi waters.)
I understand he is now taking flying lessons and intends to "fly-in" by seaplane to his favorite locations in S.E. Louisiana. He has recently purchased another Hobie PA and will now use the two of them as detachable pontoons on his recently purchased 1951 Cessna 195. He's looking for someone to share expenses.
I understand he has been in contact with Alabama's field goal kicker; who is now looking for a new home. If they go into partnership on the plane and new PA they will do a "fly-over" at TIGER STADIUM during the National Anthem when LSU plays Arkansas. Of course, with Bama's kicker on board and a HOG and the controls they will miss the stadium WIDE RIGHT. :buttrock:
