1st things 1st: We (Lafayette Kayak Fishing Club) have changed the date and weigh-in location of the tournament so you may want to cancel lodging that you had. New date is Sat June 19. Secondly, free keg of beer at the weigh-in, donated by Pack & Paddle.

We will do a "go-anywhere" tournament similar to what BCKFC has done for Paddlepalooza. You may fish anywhere along the coast. The weigh-in will be centrally located in Lafayette, LA at Pack & Paddle's storefront (4PM-6PM). This tournament will have 2 categories, speckled trout and redfish. Part of the challenge will be deciding at the weigh-in which category you want to enter. Series points go to EACH category.

If the Empire tourney is still on by that time we would open up the weigh-in as early as 3PM. Maybe even 2 PM if i can find a warm body to work it. Any IFA folks could theoretically fish ours, weigh-in early and bolt down to Empire with enough time to make the meeting.

I am still trying to work things out with the wife to go this weekend. Gonna be tough but i hope to see y'all down there.

got me interested. I'll check the calendar tomorrow at work. wife may exercise a veto however. Wife exercized her veto on me fishing both. Shouldn't be a need to cancel RR - worse case scenario we can relocate - right (I know it's too soon to tell but I just locked in the week off for that one)?

Let's see...I heard the Rev say it takes him 1.5 hours to get to Magnolia, then that would be around 3 to get from there to P&P, then back home. That'd be a looooong ride for 1/2 a pot. Of course Big Lake is holding a bazillion 13" to 15" redfish at present. Hard to find a keeper over there. Maybe Cypremort is the ticket.

I would try, but PP is a three and a half hour drive from Magnolia. Which means that it's a three hours from my house. That's just too long to spend in a truck for me.

Choupique
06-15-2010, 02:36 PM
sure aint worth the money with the split pot... I can see it if you are in it for the points though. I’m a sucker for the beer; but I’ll be fishing out west so the beer is on the way back home!

I'm with Rev on fishing for a while, going home to shower and nap then making the drive to P&P. Worse case scenario, I catch 2 small reds again. And even with 2 small fish I will probably still show up in Lafayette as my wife is out-of-town for the weekend! PARTY!!!!! :)

Here's an update- The list on the LKFC site isn't updated yet but we are up to ~30 after last nights meeting. That make for a $120 1st place prize for each category. It will be $160/cat if we get an additional 10 entries which we are hopeful to make happen.

Mag is still full of fish but I had to really work for the 3 I caught.

Late start: launching boat for 5am first cast event at 5am, not good so far. paddle in ship channel with a huge cargo ship at night, no moon, feeling very small. paddling for a mile then hear a noise... in front of me I see a rip line of grass, then louder noise, whirlpool. depth finder is 50' and this sucker is sucking down hard. cut hard and paddle hard to get out of the current pulling towards it, go around. Get to the spot 5:45am drenched in sweat. Dirty water, dirty water, First cast 22 inch trout on top, then cast... snap topwater flies (2nd time I’ve ever poped a lure off) catch two more trout 18" & 16", topwater back on.. 23" red, move 3 miles. Working corky.. swooosh screaming drag etc. 26" red. paddle back to original spot. watch a guy wear out dinks while I can’t catch any (small reef he was on?, speacial bait?) finally he leaves catch 2 more 14" trout 2pm head in to truck. trout weight was 11.4 lbs. or something like that. Got smoked buy at least a couple of people in the trout cat., maybe more. There was some nice trout caught in west cove and at commissary, I was next to dirty water and a gillion boats who all had the same idea as me.

Choup not sure where you placed but they are sending the check by mail. One guy had a 5# trout only large one he had (5th place). Rev Guy I saw after coming out of Magnolia won the redfish division with 25# I think . Reds were killing corks Sat. Lost two big ones One caught on rudder and one caught on turbo fins. Need to learn how to keep fish away from boat better. Should have went to PAC Sat first thing. Bruce and I stopped there for 45 min on way to weigh in and I caught 3 legal, 3 rats and had 2 break the line. Never had so many break offs. Guess I need to step up to larger test.

Lots of trout caught by the guys west. Many were trolling with rattle traps ?

Long day always good to see the guys in the Lafayette group. Heard some funny stories yesterday.

LSU- yeah I saw another guy pulling out with 4 solid reds - I knew I was toast. At least I know a number of folks had a tough time.

PAC is great for reds but I don't tent to catch reds with size there so I opted for Magnolia - could have used the extra two hours but that's life.

I'm about to make a post about braid - just sayin...

Rev, thanks for the prayer at the launch. I went to my first spot and nothing. I then decided to make a long paddle to another spot and it was on. Ended up catching 9 reds on that day and I had to wait until the paddle out to get a replacement red, but I was able to put together a 24# strigner and the win. I think I owe my first win to the day to the prayer! :)
