Anyone know how to go about catching flounder on the fly? I've hears some say it can be done, others say it's impossible. Anybody ever see it happen? If so....how, where and what kind of fly?

Its not impossible, though I've never caught one fly fishing. Of course I've never targeted them either. I'd imagine they would hit the same flies that you throw for specks or reds. They're usually found in the same areas as specks and reds, maybe focus more on marsh cuts and hard bottomed flats. You probably just want to fish slower, maybe use a sinking line.

I've caught them on a spoon-fly. Slow down the strips so the fly is at or near the bottom. Flounder are aggressive feeders, you just need to get the bait in front of them.

Watched a friend about 2 years ago get 2 flounder by fly. Chart clouser stripped on bottom slowly

I would think that glo egg minnow tied by snake doctor with some lead eyes would probably catch a flounder or two if fished in the right spot.

It's never been done before. Impossible!
LOL....... just kidding..... I would try Catch or Mike LeFleur either here or at laflyfish.com Both of those guys have many, many flounder and believe it or not....... Sheepshead under their belt caught on flies.
I think Chris has mentioned the most productive method I've heard of....... spoonfly in the cuts stripped along the bottom.

I don't tie, but I do fly fish. And yes, I agree that any fishy or shrimpy looking fly fished closer to the bottom -in the right places such as sandy or hard bottom around a point- would probably take a flounder. Since flies are generally small, it should be easier to get the flounder to inhale a fly and hook up. Flounder are notorious for holding onto the tail of a bait and letting go when you bring them in.

I've caught a couple while fishing for specs with a clouser under a vosi.

I've caught them on chartreuse and white clousers mostly. Just an incidental catch when fishing for specks and reds. I have yet to catch one in a slam tourney.

WOW! Didn't expect so many quick responses! Thank to everyone. I'll make sure to post a few pics once all this advice pays off.

That's one thing about this club, you'll almost always get a quick response. Sometimes it might not be the response you want, but it'll come quickly.

I caught a couple on my last trip down there. I anchored at confluences when the tide was dropping out and stripped a crab pattern through the current. They LOVE chartreuse stuff too, I've caught them on clousers in the past

Musicdoc probably mentioned the best method - a weighted fly like a clouser under a VOSI (flyrodder's popping cork made from a perch float cut in half). Caught many that way. Also Chris' suggestion - spoonfly - very productive. Flounders like spoons almost as much as reds do. It's easy to catch flounder on flies. I've even caught a couple on popper! The tough part is finding them. They always seem to disappear during tournaments.
My son Kevin caught these two years ago fly fishing from his yak at one of the sand pits near Grand Isle

I have caught a few bouncing a chartreusse plastic on a 1/4oz jig head along the bottom in a cut where the tide was flowing through. Don't see why a Chartreusse clouser wouldn't have done the same thing.

Congratulations! Where did you make the catch? (Not exactly where, just the launch site).

I caught it in Stump Lagoon, near the Rigolets. Launched out of Rigolets Harbor and Marina.

There are definitely some serious flounder spots in that area. I know I sat in one spot and caught about 8 in an hour. Haven't been able to hit it at the right time since then.
