I have a Native Magic (sit atop) that I am looking to add an aftermarket seat to. The factory seats from Native run $299.00 and I figured there were some nice after market seats that would be just as comfortable for less. Any suggestions welcome.

I do not know if Surf to Summit has one that would work but I have the expedition and it is the bomb! Great back support and very comfy. Also cost about $150+.

I use the GTS Elite seat. It's the next level down from the Expedition that Branch mentioned. It' not quite as comfy but at nearly half the price (on ebay) I find it's good enough. I think I would have like the expedition more, but for me it came down to a cost to benefit ratio.

Is that a second seat for a passenger? I think all but taller folks might find paddling a Magic a bit awkward when seated 2 or 3 inches lower than the standard Native seat. I haven't tried it, just speculating based on the high gunwales of that boat.

try using a beach chair, they sit about 2" off of the ground and should fit between the gunnels of the magic

Yes, it is a second seat for dual paddling. Was wondering about the seat height issue as well.

Try Psycho Joe's idea: So crazy it just might work.

IMHO, most any seat with good back support will do. After that I add a $12-$15 self inflating seat. Instant comfort! I don't know how any of y'all survive without sitting on air. Guess I'm getting old. Done scratched half my arse off and ain't got much natural cushion left.

+1 on the inflating seat. Academy has a good one with a back rest for about $25 or so.

guess i should have mentioned that too. I also use a air cushion. They have one in the hunting section at bass pro for $15. It has a screw on valve so you can fine tune it to your comfort level. (look for it in the section with the turkey seats)

The boyz like to change it up between the “booth” style and the “bar” style.

very true, booth style allows you to stretch out for those long days on the water, but the bar style allows for 360 degree casting. both have their pros and cons.

I saw that seat at Academy last night. It was $49 and they have an even fancier version for $79 I think. I wound up buying the Pelican el cheapo seat for $35 - the sales guy said they have a great return policy - he said try out the seat and if you dont like it bring it back for a refund or exchange.

In regards to the el Cheapo seat, I can always fix the comfort issue by getting a cushion but what also concerns me is the seatback looks sorta low-ish. I suffer from lower back pain due to a bad car wreck years ago (T-boned a bucket truck @ 45 per). I'm thinking ther higher back will give me better overall support for long days on the water. Opinions?

Catch :)

for overall comfort, go with the inflatable seat. they make a kayak seat that is inflatable. it has 2 adjustments one for the seat and one for the back. it also allows you to sit about one and a half inches higher on air.

Joe - moot issue now. See my A12T rigging thread this forum.

I went with the inflatable seat this morning before I even began pimping my ride. I took the Pelican seat back to Academy and got the $50 inflatable seat. Oddly, this particular seat from Sierra Sports does not come with back straps & clips to attach to the rear eyes for front & back stability. I had to buy a 1.5" fastex buckle and buy a pair of 1" straps (Academy camping dept - $1.99/ pair - Fastex buckle at Seal Sports in Mandeville for $2)

I won one of these at Paddle Palooza and it is awesome.

Plus 1 on what Rev said. I purchased one and put in my Big Game when I had it and could fish twice as long with no back problems. Very comfortable! If you order from them tell them you are a club member and I think they will give you a discount and pay shipping!
