Had a great day on the water today only to return home to find that someone has my bank card number and has withdrawn a large amount of money out of my checking account by doing debits in TN. I was in a class in that area in December and someone must have picked up my number when I was there.

Good day gone bad, hope I can get most of the funds back, would sure hurt to take that kind of loss, the best I can do today is stop the cards, so be careful with those debit cards guys!

Was it a debit or credit? Curious if having the pin is anymore secure.

I've had that happen twice so far! Once when Visa's system was hacked a few years back - the money was being spent in Mexico; and about two months ago our business account was drained on social networking sites in the U.K.! It is so frustrating to know that someone has stolen from you and there is nothing you can do about it! :grind:

The good thing is the money was recovered both times. It still makes me mad to think that someone may have gotten away with it!

I hope you are able to recover your funds quickly and with little hastle.

Just went through this. My bank that issued my debit card called to alert me to a suspicious purchase. Someone in Brooklyn, NY had apparently replicated my card and had used it at a store there. They didn't simply get my card number and order something online, someone went through the effort to make a duplicate card. Luckily, the purchase was for $362 and didn't clean out my account as I had to wait for the charge to clear my account before I could sign an affidavit at the bank stating that it was a fraudulent charge. Once that was done, I had to wait 10 business days for the money to be placed back in my account. About a week ago, I received a letter from the bank saying that the incident is under investigation and the money may be taken out of my account if they do not find that the purchase was fraudulent. This may take until July.

Well that just sucks and is very scary! I guess I thought that if it was a true debit card (not credit) then the pin would have to be used and that would make it more secure against acts like this from happening. So, even if the card was replicated, if the correct pin was not used then how would the card be approved for any purchases?

I know our business cards were Debit / Credit cards, but all of the fraudulant charges were made by POS Debit (Point of Sale), which leads me to believe that they replicated our cards as well.
