I'm about to upgrade to a bigger/longer kayak. I know many of ya'll have the bed extender from harbor freights. Unfortunately, my truck does not have a hitch receiver to even plug the extender into. Would the cheap $20 hitch from harbor freight work, or do ya'll recommend buying a more expensive one? I wouldn't be towing anything, just use the hitch for the bed extender.

I'm not sure which one you are talking about, but if it is $20 buy it and load test the heck out of it before you get out on the open road. If it fails you are only out 20 bones.

Just my 2 cents.

I use the bed extender from harbor frieght and it works well for me, but I have a factory installed hitch receiver.

t-weed, uses a 2" receiver that bolts to his bumper. I think he said he paid about the same and it seems to work just fine for him.

I have a brand new hitch extender that I have never used. It's the kind that offers a couple of different configurations. I don't know the brand off-hand, but it's still in the original box. It does fit into the normal 2" receiver.

When I get back in town, I'll find out the details and how much I paid for it and will post if for sale.

LSUbeast...I know what you are talking about and as long as you would only use it for a yak or ladder (something light duty) you shouldn't have a problem. Harbor Freight is the way to go on that! Just my 3cents worth....

I've been looking at the same bolt-on 2" reciever hitch at Wal-Mart. They want something like $36 for it. If Harbor Freight has the same thing for $20 I think I'm going over there. Dad had one on an old Ford truck years ago and it towed the 15' fiberglass bass boat with no problems. I'd think a yak on a bed extender would be just fine.
