I'm a complete novice at kayaking, but I want to be able to access the marsh and fly fish. (Minimal time in open water.) Standing up to be able to sight fish and cast is pretty important. I'm 5'10" and 165 lbs. I'd appreciate some help in beginning to narrow down the likely "candidates" to focus on for the "demo, demo, demo" phase of the selection process. Massey's suggested the Native Watercraft Ultimate series. Uptown Angler is now carrying the Kajun Kayak and that seems to have some merit.

But you all are the experts! What say you?

I agree with the ultimate. You might also want to look at the Jackson Coosa.

Yup, the Coosa is meant for standing and casting. I have a video of me being a fly casting noob and Ben (fishtaco) has a great video of him fly fishing out of his Coosa. I'll post the vids when I'm not on the phone.

Also, check out the Diablo or even the Versaboard.

Definitely check out the Coosa, Backpacker and Pack & Paddle carry it. I use to own an Ultimate, got rid of it for the Coosa - same stability, more comfortable to stand in, plus it has scuppers. http://jacksonkayak.com/jk-kayaks/kayak-fishing/coosa/

Freedom Hawk 12 WITHOUT question. But........ it's heavy. It can, however, be converted to Trolling Motor propulsion and then it ROCKS.

I don't think that video being your favorite has got anything to do with a paddleboard...:hide:  Just saying.....

Check out the Diablo. That thing was made for standing and fishing and has a nice open deck for fly fishing.

Enough room for you and whatever else you may be carrying.

In this order:
diablo
coosa
versaboard
freedomhawk

I flyfish out of an ultimate. Having said that, I will not recommend the ultimate, esp. after flyfishing/demoing the yaks in above list

Dunno if the OP is still looking for a yak but I'm bringing this thread back now that ReelThrill is selling his Diablo.

Guess I'll send him a PM too.
