So just thought I would introduce myself. I live in Raceland on Bayou Lafourche and I have been looking to get into kayak fishing ever since I went flounder gigging at night on the way to grand isle and got the boat caught in low tide. Me and a buddy had to push the boat pretty much dry docked for atleast 50 or so feet and saw a kayaker earlier that day and thought "damn I wish I had one of those right now". lol

So anyways, I don't have the funds right now to buy a yak but I will be lurking on the forums and reading in the mean time until I finally take the plunge!

Welcome. Always good to have a new member. Keep an eye out on our Buy/Sell page, on Craigslist and LASportsman. You can find some great deals.

Welcome! Like you, I joined prior to owning a kayak. Great place to pick the brains of some great guys (gals) that know their stuff about kayaks and fishing....and other things you don't give a darn about! Try to make the upcoming club meeting in New Orleans. Always great to put a screen name with a face.

Welcome! Take your time and get what you want. Just look at Theoldcaster....he has been a member for a few years now and he doesnt even have a kayak.:lol: Go to demo days and try out a bunch. You might be surprised at what you might like. Pick out a few and get suggestions from some of our knowledgable club members.

Welcome and as mentioned...demo, demo and then demo. Come to our meeting in New Orleans coming up at Massey's on Carrolton and then Family Day on Aug 6th. We will have Backpacker at Family Day with a bunch of yaks as well as our members bring yaks so there is a lot of demoing going on.

Hope to see you there and make sure you introduce yourself to everyone.

I don't own a yak, but I have 2 tarpons, 1 Ascend, and a Pro Angler in my garage, so I guess I can make it a few days without one! :yes:

Is that the LA1 bridge over the Intercoastal?

If that's the la1 bridge, you should take 308. I think that's the hwy

@biggie yeah I prolly should, I just take la-1 out of habit I guess. Oh and no complaints so far on the yak. It's a good size for me that I can pick up and handle myself without wheels.

@chack yeah let's hit it up sometime, just a warning tho that I'm not the best fisherman or kayaker haha

Was a good day out on the water tho. I launched a little after 6. Just paddled around for most of the time, although I didn't make it to the mine. We had a possibility for bad weather so I didn't want to chance it. Came back closer to the launch around 11ish for some red fishing. Caught one 20" then the weather came in hard and i had to call it a day, barely made it to the dock in time. haha

Welcome to the club. That Tarpon is a great boat. There are a few of us in Thibodaux - Chackadaux, revredfish, hobie1kenobie and I all fish together when we can. Let me know if you ever have a weekday free and we'll hook up.

I am new to this also, and not the best fisherman. Just like being out on the water, Don't get to do it as much as I would like.

@all_in
Do ya'll go in the late afternoons? I work 8-5 m-f that's why I ask.

@chack
Same here, when I went out I probably paddled for 4 hours and fished for 1 total. I enjoyed just being out without the sound of a motor but I would like to do more actual fishing next time I go out. Plus my back and shoulders were soooorrrrrreeee. lol

So I think either tonight or tom night I will grill up that redfish. Thinking of either doing a grilled or blackened redfish with a side of corn maque choux.

Welcome to the club. I love Thibodaux and I love my Tarpon, though I don't live in Thibodaux any more. I did spend more time in Thibodaux with my parents this summer than I have in years past. They loved that. They will be at the Outcast this Saturday too. Glad to hear you slimed your yak. BTW, IMO, you don't need to paddle to the mine this time of year to catch fish at Bason's. A couple of weeks ago about 6 of us went out and I think four reds were caught right by the pumps at the landing.

I tend to go mornings but when I get out of Soccer Season (13 weeks a year), and there isn't a tournament (seven weeks a year), and I'm not on family trips (4-6 a year) I occassionally can squeeze in a Saturday trip - lol. We can help you out that's for sure.

Man we need to have that Bayou country bar-b-que

@Music
Yeah I paddled out for fun really and to explore since it was my first time there in a yak. On the way back in I stopped north of the pumps to catch some reds and I had time to catch that one until the weather started picking up and forced me to paddle in.

@rev
I would definitely be up for it but I could only do weekday afternoons and weekends.
Whats Bayou country BBQ? Guessing fish cooked on a grill with their skins/scale with bbq sauce?
