So i got a new yak and decided to make a Bait live well. First question?

What do i have laying around to make one?
How big do i want it?
How much money do i want to spend?

So with that being said i found an old electric pump, tubing, pvc and paint. I bought a cheap dog container, and a battery. When the take fills up i will move the tubing inside the well to recirculate.

Yes, I have a few tweaks to make, like silicone the connectors, water exit, etc.

I tried it out in the pond yesterday and it worked like a charm.:buttrock:

Here is what I came up with. Its a bit ghetto but hey it will work.

Good job and nothing wrong with ghetto engineering. Only problem you may have will be if you decide to use pogey minnows.

curious, why?

pogies don't like square containers. most finfish, like pogies and croaker, need to be in a round container. The current in a square container will cause them to get "stuck" in the corners.

OK looks good, but if you are going to use the pump to recirculate the water once the tank is full then why don't you put an overflow hose on that thing and circulate new water constantly. Just put a screen on the overflow to keep your bait from going out that way.

Also, you may want to either put a weight on the end of the fill hose or possibly even run it through the scupper.

ST said it before I could. They will go into the corners and die.

Shrimp, cacahoes and mullet should do fine UNLESS you can find a way to round out the corners and make it a big oval. It's probably not a difficult task, it'll just require another dose of redneck engineering. Needed: a lightweight flexible material that can be silicone into the corners to round them out.

Other than that... looks good.

Remember, a new law allows licensed bait dealers to start on May 1. Therefore, live bait will be available about a month earlier than usual.

If you cant find anything to use to round corners I can get you some material. I can cut you some PTFE strips that are about 1/4" thick, fairly flexible and water resistant as it a gasket material and pipe liner.

If you need it PM me.

ooooo I like. How about cut a ring from a 5 gal bucket. drill it full of holes and 5200 to the floor of your new well.
