Perception Search 13 with rudder

I'm selling a 2008 model Perception Search 13 that I bought in March 2009 from West Marine in Houma. It is a great mid-level boat. It has the look and feel of a WS Ride 135. The chine is rounder than most boats out there. This gives it a bit more speed and better tracking. It doesn't have as much initial stability, but it has tons of secondary stability. I think it is a great boat to fish from and to cover distance comfortably, but it isn't the easiest to stand up in (I have sttod up in it several times, but wasn't easy).

It is well laid out. The rigid seat back is a dream. The 8" hatch just in front of the seat has enough room for my cell, sunscreen and snacks. The tank is plenty big enough for tackle and a cooler. The bow is really boyant - I have paddled through plenty of nasty waves and the bow stays high - don't get me wrong, I got wet, but the boat didn't dive any waves.

Here are the specs on the hull:

...and a few reviews:

Since buying the boat I added a Scotty surface mount on the front, an anchor trolly (Harken blocks front and back) and a rudder with a custom hand control that works great.

I also installed Garmin 12XL GPS with a power cord (cigarette lighter) and bracket just in front of the seat that I will optionally include with the boat. It is a great old school gps - no base map, but really solid performance. I have the orignial Quick Start Guide and User's Manual for it.

Here are the specs on the GPS:

and some reviews:

I will insert some pictures in the next post. I hate to sell it, but I just bought a Hobie and need to ressusitate my checking account.

I'm asking $600.00 with the GPS and $550.00 without. Send me a PM if you want to try it out.

All In - have fun with the Hobie

Could you 'splain to me the difference btw initial and secondary stability? Tippy, but not so bad you fall out?

that's a basic way to put it. people tend to overrate primary stability because it makes them feel like they are falling out. This feeling is obviously lessened with time and technique as you learn the kayak. Secondary stability is the point of no return; it's the flipablity of the kayak. To me this is more important.

I have two perception yaks and wouldn't mind snagging this one. I'm gonna have to think about this upgrade! By the way - all_in takes care of his stuff. I bought my first yak from him.

Initial stability, aka "primary" stability, is the yak's immediate resistance to forces that move it out of equilibrium (steady state). e.g. You carelessly reach behind you for that pair of pliers - the more initial stability, the less your yak will tend to abruptly roll as a result. Secondary or "dynamic" stability is the tendency of your yak to return to equilibrium, with each successive oscillation being smaller than the preceeding one. Generally speaking, the more initial stability, the less "tippy" your yak will feel (useful for standing up), but it is dynamic stability that prevents you from actually tipping the thing over.

Well put sir.

Kayak is sold. Can somone tell me how to change the name of the thread so that people won't have to read all this to find out that the item is sold?
