ive been looking at this kayak and think it will meet most of my needs.has scuppers, seat is high enough to keep butt dry in most cases.can stand up long enough to pee with practice.these boats are getting hard to find, but i located a tandem i can get shipped for 1100.00.is this a pretty good deal?is it hard to put a fish-finder on?is it even possible to put a trolling motor on it?based on the limited photos i could find the plug and play bracket wouldnt support a trolling motor bracket.if anyone knows where any more new or used ones are please let me know.any feedback appreciated.thanks.

Most important thing is what year is it. If the seat doesn't mount on the floor, I would steer clear. A very large percentage of the older hulls would crack by the rivets on the plug n' play rails on those kayaks where the seat plugged into the rails. Mine cracked, but luckily I got a replacement hull with the revised seating. Blake at Massey's was a great help. Since Native discontinued the Magic, they're not replacing the hulls anymore. Mine has been perfect since I had it replaced. $1100 is a little high, but not crazy for a tandem. I love my boat and most people who own good ones do as well. The higher premium is justified for the scarcity of used 14.5 ft boats hitting the market. If you didn't want a tandem, you could probably sell the seat and straps for $200-250.

Not sure. It was either 2008 or 2009 that they made the change. It's easy to tell. If the seat plugs into the rail, it's an old model. If it mounts on the floor, it's the newer model.

I am almost positive that the only one with the updated seat design is the 2010 model. I would steer clear of anything else.

I agree. I believe the newer design started coming out some time in 2009, but as the 2010 model.

I have an older model that I bought used recently. I don't have any issues yet, but I could see how it would happen. If you don't want the extra seat, I'd be more than happy to buy it from you. You can get up to $250 depending on condition.

well,i guess i will have to decide if i want to pay my money and take a chance.not much of a warranty if you cant even get any replacement parts.i just really like the design of the boat.its like your sitting inside and not on top and the wide open floor makes it look like a freighter.

What type of replacement parts were you looking for? I have a magic and MAKE a lot of the parts myself.

rab123, Before I purchased my 2010 Magic new around March, I sent an email to Native to see what they would do if my hull went bad. They replied they still had quite a few new hulls for warranty replacements. I guess if they run out, they probably would give you some sort of credit on a current model yak, but you might want to confirm. Go to the site. The magic is sweet for a shallow water/open style yak with scuppers.

I too have a Magic 14.5 and absolutely love it. Big enough to easily carry one of my boys with me, and paddles quite well. The design of the boat is very similar to having a canoe with scuppers.
