Pretty good video showing how to get good tension on your reel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIJnYS6lib8&playnext=1&list=PL7CBF64CAB2C5881E

Has anyone seen anything similar for a bait caster?

that's pretty cool. I used an old (clean) sock as a glove. I then wrapped the braid around my fingers for extra tension but that looks like it is much easier.

After watching that I found this one. It shows how to rig a spinning reel set up all the wayfrom the spool to the hook.

I have one of these - I love it. They go on sale for 15.00 pretty often. You can get braid SO tight with it.

That is what I use most of the time. It works great for baitcasters but sucks for spinning reels. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the Academy link Jeff. Somehow I lost it.

The part that you put the spool on buckles under the tension that I put on it when I spool up a spinning reel.

Hmmm. Hadn't noticed that. I'll have to check it out in the AM.

I do know that for baitcasters I wasn't putting enough tension on until I bought one of these. Also....... Will Drost in Speckmasters claims 30# Powerpro is horrible for backlashes. He claims 20# is MUCH better. I'm going to have to try some 20 out.

I use 10# Sufix 832 and it is probably the best line I have spooled on any reel I have ever owned. Best bang for the buck as far as I am concerned.

Yeah. I want to try some of that too.

I have tried 20# PowerPro and I took it off my reel almost as fast as I put it on. The Sufix 832 is the best of both worlds. It casts like monofilament, ,maybe better, and has the strength of braid.

Good tip. I just put the spool on the floor and throw a big towel over the line. Gives enough tension to pack the line on the spool.
