I have a hobie anchor trolley kit waiting to be installed on my wifes PA, but I'm reluctant to start drilling holes until I've heard from the experts.

Anyone here install one on a PA? If so, How high? Distance from bow/ stern etc..

I just installed the hobie anchor trolley on my outback two days ago. A good rule of thumb is to start 12" from bow and 12" from stern. I made a few changes to the trolley kit. You are more than welcome to stop by and check it out since you live in Gonzales.

HOWEVER...
brian22 did some nice linework on his detachable trolley. If I remember correctly, he got the idea from DPham:

To see it on a PA:

Simple, cheap, and detachable. A bit of whipping and splicing can make it purtty.
Hope that helps.

That last video is what I used. I personally am not going to drill holes in my yak - I have a drill-less fishfinder setup and the trolley in video 3. I saw a drilled out store-bought anchor trolley pull its screws out during PP8... granted the wind was high but that's not an option for me. The installer that did the job is one of the most competent in the industry - the trolley just couldn't hold the pull of a PA staked out in 25-30mph winds. Mine made out ok b/c there's no drilling, the front and back are looped around the front and rear handles and those aren't going anywhere. Also much cheaper, I think I spent $20-30 to do both sides. My issue now is getting a good enough stakeout pole - the tomato stakes work great until they leeeeaaaannnn over just enough to pop me off my trolley in this spring's winds. Going to make up something good for that. Here are a few pics of my setup:

I installed my store bought kit and it works fine. Granted I haven't tested it in winds above 15-20 mph and worry that the "well nuts won't hold up. I would have preferred using those "fender type washers on the pulleys but found it difficult to hold the washer and nut in the cramped quarters on the inside. O and by the way, my trolley is installed about 1 inch from the top.

Even though I don't mind drilling holes in anything, I am using the temp trolley. It works great. As far as a stake out pole, use 3/4 pvc with a wooden dowel siliconed inside, cut bottom at 22 or 45 angle, make it 5 or 6 ft!

I tried the detachabe trolley on the mariner...no luck. The angles of the sides, and the location of the handles cause the trolly to ride up or down they will not stay on the side of the boat. I'm hesitant to start drilling holes as well. So far i just use my stake out pole, a piece of rope with a float, and a carabiner which i can quickly attach to or remove from the carry handle on each side.
