I have an outback and the drive is not very easy to click in. Contacted Hobie and they sent some shims that need to go under the click and go portion in the yak it self. Looked on Hobie's web site to see how to get the shims in place and no luck. Any one know???

Wish I could help you. I've had a little trouble here with mine but found that if I put the aft end of the drive in first it goes in better.
Perhaps the backpacker? If not, call Hobie. It's been my experience that they have very good customer service.

It's a weird phenomenon with me. Sometimes I drop the drive in and it slips right in and I'm away. But one day I spent about 20 minutes trying to get the dang thing in....it is a good thing no one was around at the marina that day to hear what I was saying.
Like Yak-a-lou sez, it seems if you try to place the end closest to you tilted downward as you drop it in then that works--at least sometimes--for me. A trick that I tried...I suspended the yak on blocks and then looked at how the drive was dropping into place. That seemed to help. It has not given me much trouble lately, maybe because of practice. I think part of the problem may be that you are sitting back in the seat and working at an angle when you are trying to insert the drive "on the water." It may be easier if you skooch forward and get over the drive as you place it so that you can better see what you are doing. But I know what you mean....it can be a frustrating thing. I think it will work out for you, though.

I was having trouble geting my drive in while on its side or in shallow water. I started just setting it around the mount. After I paddle out a few feet, it drops straight in. No problem mon.

I saw Backpacker is doing a demo tomorrow at the store with the big pool, maybe you could go by and check it out there or ask them. Just a suggestion.
