A little advanced i know. I plan on fishing Cypremort Point on the 28th (weather permitting). Hoping to catch some fish. I welcome company p.s I am a novice will be fishing out of a Hobie Outback.
You might try the Lafayette Board for that area. Those guys fish it more than anyone, and know more about Cypremort. I usually launch off the beach in the State park, and fish the open area near the pilings, for trout. Norton sand eels, gulp shrimp under cork, stuff like that, but that usually picks up later in the year, when the Atchafalaya is down and water is more salty. Then I go along the shoreline throwing touts and other plastics for reds. I have even gone into the marsh for reds. The lafayette guys frequently go south and fish the rocks jetties near the camps.

I grew up in New Iberia, so I've fished that area pretty frequently (though never out of a kayak). Mung has everything spot on. The Atachafalaya is high and dirty, so the fishing in Vermilion bay stinks. The only thing I would add is to be safe in Shark Bayou. Many people from the area use it to go tubeing or skiing, so in the summer time there is a lot of boat traffic. By the way, does the name progfreak refer to prog music? Because I am a prog freak as well.

Does anyone know what the "magic number" is for that area as far as river level on the Atchafalaya or salinity level in the nearby gauges?
Oh and I can dig on prog rock.
