I purchased my first yak today. After countless hours of personal debate, i went with the Widerness System Commander 140. I went for a short paddle and I was fairly happy with my decision. Just need some decent weather and fishing trip is in order.

Congrats G Ape. You have plenty of time to get rigged up for PP8.

See ya on the water!

You will love it, I learned to yak in a commander 12 and they are great boats. One thing that I did find helpful was the front bow skirt, it prevented spay from coming in the front and offered some storage!

Welcome Grape Ape. I fish in a Wilderness Tarpon and love it. It's definitely built for speed. I have tried other boats but find this one to be quite comfortable. Oh, and I find it's easy to "slime" too.

Congrats. I'm a newbie too. Hope to see you out there. I'll be down south at Bobby Lynn's on Friday 2/11 sliming the boat again. That will be my fourth trip in the new boat since I bought it Dec 31st.

I would fish out of the boat for a few weeks to give yourself time to figure out exactly where you want stuff to go. Many people rig their boat as soon as they buy it and find later that they do not want things where they originally rigged them. Fish the boat some and see where everything will be the most comfortable for you. Good luck with the rigging. I'm sure you will get lot of help.

+10000..... sitting in the yak on dry land and thinking about where you want things will help as well, but nothing beats actually fishing it and figuring out how you like things... your rod/reel fishing position may hit that mount you wanted to put right next to you, for example, or make it difficult to cast.
