I mean, how much nicer is having a peddle yak vs a paddle? What do most of you use?

How stable is the Hobie Quest? can I stand up in it, set a hook, and not go swimming?

What's the most "decked out" kayak to be had for under a grand?

Anyone know anything about the Kajun Kustom Kayaks? Looks like he/they are based in Baton Rouge, and they look to be pretty nice. Google them.

I know it's all pretty random, I have been doing a ton of research, and was wondering.

I have an outback now but started with a Commander and a paddle, I love to paddle, but having my hands free to fish made me move to a peddle boat. You are always welcome to come to my house ( lake in back yard ) I have a Native ultimate ( hybrid ), a Wilderness Tarpon ( sit on top ) and a Hobie outback ( peddles ), you can try out all three, to see what you like. Rule 1 is there is no perfect boat for all uses, and no matter what you own you will always want another one, my next one will be a Pro Angler!

On my second yak, the Native Mariner Propel...it uses pedal propulsion and is a really versatile yak. It's a wonderful thing! Suggest you demo many, and make sure this one's in the mix.

While I agree with all others that you should demo lots of boats before you buy, I can't help but pointing you to what looks like a really good deal.

For under a grand you are going to be in the paddle yaks unless you catch a really, really good deal on one used. I have an Ocean Kayak Prowler Big Game. Very stable boat. Not the lightest in the world, but not horrible either. As for paddling/pedaling I think the obvious choice has to go to pedal. In my case I went for the trolling motor. I have to take it off for the tourneys, other than Outcast, but I fish way more often than tournaments so I'll stay with the set up I have.

I'm not sure on the Quest. I won one at FNT and sold it without ever putting it in the water. It appeared to be pretty stable and probably faster than my PBG, but I like the layout of the PBG.

As the others have said; demo, demo, demo. Backpacker, one of our sponsors, is doing monthly demos pretty soon. If you call them they will almost surely bring out the models you are interested in.

I just got back to the computer after spending a week with my daughter for the holidays. I will be posting my review of the Kajun Kustoms K12 as soon as I can this weekend.
