Hey,

Bout to go hardcore on my canoe and possibly convert it from a tandem to a solo AND I'm planning on rigging my canoe for dry bags but need to go old school cheap for now on the end bags. I'm gonna have to drill holes in my baby:boese104: to run the line and I'm gonna have to glue down D-ring patches.

I haven't done any of this kinda stuff since college when we (LSU buddies and I) had Mad Rivers with foam saddles,

SO,

Anybody know where I can buy tractor tire sized inner tubes in an actual store?

Thanks, as always, for any leads, y'all.

First place that came to mind is Tractor Supply Company. They have a store in Zachary and a quick look at their website shows them to have a pretty good selection of inner tubes.

Here is the link: http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?storeId=10551&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&pageSize=20&beginIndex=0&sType=SimpleSearch&resultCatEntryType=2&error1=&ip_text=inner+tube&ip_textHH=inner+tube&ip_requestUri=ProductDisplay&ip_categoryId=&ip_mode=&ip_perPage=20

Thanks, ijuswannafish. I didn't even think about Tractor Supply Co. I didn't even know we had them in LA. Checking them out right ASAP.

No problem. I only knew we had them because I used to drive right by the one in Zachary on the way to work.

Believe there is a Tractor Supply also in Gonzales.

How about I loan you some float bags or you make me on offer? I have at least one around here, if not two. Never used it/them. Let me know if you are interested. I'll help you rig it.

Does Tractor Supply actually sell tractor supplies? It is mostly miscellaneous farm supplies, feed and carhartts but I don't remember ever seeing tractor tires there. Yeah you should be able to find a spare tire for your trailer but an actual tractor tire I'm not sure. Who knows though, they might have inner tubes.

Kurt, thanks for the offer. Send me some info on them: size, brand, age, etc. and what you want for them. I've used tractor tubes before in class II strapped down with no problems before I had real float bags a long long time ago with a different canoe. So using them on flat water and possibly a little wave action isn't a big problem at all. It's the exposed areas of the mine out there that make me want to have some kind of flotation in there because of the potential for waves to kick up higher than comfortable and the bigger possibility of tipping over and having to self-rescue in deep water. I'm making plans and precautions.

I'm gonna keep it simple with the rigging no matter what I do. I plan to drill a series of holes through the Royalex hull right below the gunnel and then glue down the patches. Then run a small line woven through the holes to keep the tubes down. That's bomb-proof, for sure.

It's kinda good I'm doing the MC. The flipping in the marsh last March I endured (with the endless bailing of water out of the boat and being half-buried in mud made it that much more fun) and the idea of going out into a big lake without something to keep the boat above water has really got me thinking about how and where I paddle, which I often do alone. I've gotten lax about the water safety issues in an open boat. I got comfortable floating above the water and not in it since I usually don't often paddle far from shore when I fish. Good things to ponder on.

E-54, I'm not looking for the tires, only the tubes for a tractor tire

Yeah I knew, but I was just digressing the inventory of said Tractor Supply store.

Hope the float bags work for you though.

Yep, there is definitely a TSC in Gonzales. It's on Highway 30 in the shopping center on the Southwest corner of Highway 30 and 44. Get off I-10 at Hwy 30 (Cabela's) and go North. The shopping center is on your left side at the next light.

Stop by a heavy truck tire dealer and I bet they will give you some take offs as they get them.
