Your map is wrong. Wal-mart is not that far down the road.
This is where it is:http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl
There might be another joining us. I have not heard from him this week.
There is also an honor box for the launch fee. If I remember correctly it is $5 to launch.

LOL, you both fail. :D
I'm guessing this is it and the launch is just to the west/left on the water right?

I'm all skrewed up.
I didn't actually look for it, I just did a search for Wal-Mart, Galliano, Louisiana and that's what I came up with. Didn't even verify what I was looking at.

I wish I had the problem you are having Element54. Lets hope there are still fish left in the mine for the rest of us.
This is probably going to be my last trip out until MC4 unless I get lucky. I will be in Haughton for a week at Christmas then back to the grind of working until after the new year.
Looking forward to meeting and fishing with you Kaptaink.
Good luck to everyone that is heading out to brave the weather for a trip tomorrow.

I don't know if Pistol got pics of his swimming excursion, but the rest of us completely missed it. We had no idea he went swimming until he came back to the launch. Took some serious "moxie" for him to keep fishing after joining our aquatic team.
As reported previously in the Sulfur mine, all specks were caught under a cork. I tried a few different things while they were being caught and couldn't get a bite on anything tightlined on a jighead. Mirrodine produced the smallest speck of the day for me. I don't know if that lil guy was any more than 10". I think I had 1 or 2 that were 16", but most were smaller than that. They seemed to like the smaller baits and shrimp imitations the best.

You lose Gairi:smilegrin:
ijuswannafish- 25 trout 3 reds =36 lbs total
3283
breamkiller- 25 trout 1 red =28 lbs total
3282
yak-a-holic- 16 trout =Did not weigh them.
3284
My trout were 13"-15" with one just over 12" because he tried to swallow the hook. 3 reds 17", 20" and 28.5".
Dad's trout were 13"-15" with 4 going 16.5"-17". 1 red 23"
yak-a-holic had some decent fish. looked like 16 trout 13"-15"
We got on the water somewhere around 7:45 or 8 am and fished until 3:30 pm. Anything under a cork caught the trout. I used a H&H TKO rig with the clear/red flake shrimp to catch all of mine. 8 or 10 throwbacks with only 3 of them under 12". I caught the reds on an east beast colored TTF Hackberry Hustler. Thanks TTF for such a wonderful lure.
I know dad caught a couple trout on a 14mr Mirrodine mini. Alot of his were caught using a H&H speculizer tandem rig. Did not get any doubles. Not sure what else he used but it was a very productive day, if you don't count the broken rod.
Oh yeah we only got rained on the first 30 minutes or hour and it never got over a heavy drizzle. Very windy today but well worth the trip.
KaptainK and Pistol will have to give their own reports when they have a chance.

Let's just say it is not made for long paddles or high winds. Call me if you want more details.
For all of you wanting to know all the details of the new yak, after the maiden voyage, I will post a full report in the next couple of days. I need to sit and think about it before I try to write about it.

It was a great day of fishing. By the time I got to where the fish were being caught, Dad was already almost half way to his limit. I was being stubborn and trying to find other ways to catch fish so I couldn't get on the bite. Pulled up 20-30 feet to Dad's left and couldn't really catch anything. Backed out and moved over to his right side and was in them. The trout are definitely in the mine. Hopefully I can do a little better next month at MC4.

First I got lost 3 times driving down there, its been about 15 yrs since i fished west of the river. Ok It started off cold, windy and overcast, I didn't have high hopes for the day. But like sherman said I want to try to catch fish in a hurricane so we had to go see. After a long windy paddle I got to the mine and I saw a boat about 250 yards to the southwest of the main bayou and the were catching trout under a cork about a foot and a half deep. So I paddled closer and kind of "drifted" parallel to their boat and start doing the same as they were and caught some trout, waved over to the others and before you knew we were catching fish every cast. I noticed the wind had slacked to about 12-13mph and the water was warmer and clean. I think I got about 10 there and it slacked a bit. The wind picked up again so i started looking around and headed back towards the mouth of the main bayou. I started to make out a big school of birds feeding so I was heading in that direction when an older couple cut me off and proceeded to do two circles exactly where the birds were diving. If you look at the map of the mine the is a big u shaped area , thats where I was. I took the forever to get in a spot and I watched the wife heave the anchor over. So I paddled to a little hole about 50yards from them. and first cast my cork was gone in a half second. It was a nice fat 18 incher. While I am fighting the fish i lose my paddle and its about 10 feet away when I got the trout in the boat. So I am turned around facing my ice chest and casting forward and just leaned back and splash. At first I was like did I just fall in 55 degree water, how fast can I paddle back and change clothes and get back here to fish. First I had to get my boat flipped and and get me back in. once I did that I had to figure out how to get my paddle which was 30 yards away. So i used my pvc stick anchor to paddle after it. finally got it and now I had to do some search and rescure for the rest of my plastics that were floating in there bags all over the place. So after that I wanted to fish for a few more minutes then head in before I froze. But it wasn't that cold, and I got myself out of the wind and I was catching fish fast. I was casting right at the old couples boat they were fishing the other side and I just kept laughing them catching nothing. When they saw they 3 pounder they left and moved further west. Of course that spooked my fish so i tried the other side and thats where I got all of my reds. Well the old couple finally left and I moved a bit closer to the flat I was fishing earlier. I think the tide was rising from west to east and on the other side of that was a channel. As the afternoon went on the fish moved off the flat and further away from the shore. By 3 oclock the water temp started dropping and the trout were not as active and by 4 all i could do was just barely tap my cork to get a strike anything else was ignored. So as I finally got my 25 trout I decided to head in. And yes by this point my feet were cold!!!
And when I finally got back I was cold. I want to say thanks to Sherman and brother and dad for waitin to see if i made it back. I thought that was real stand-up. I guess thats why i chose to join this club instead of the Mobile bay club where I live.
I caught fish on any color lure that day but my go to was norton limetruese bull minnow, it really stood out in the water. I checked marshworks and they got nothing like it that I have seen, so thats why I am posting that. And I posted where I fished because its not like the fish will be in the exact same spot a month later. And since this is my first post as a member I thought I would make it a good one.
See yall on the 15th

Great report pistol. I feel bad that you had to take a swim and spend all that time recovering your gear but I'm impressed that you stuck it out and finished with not one but two limits for the day. That is some serious dedication.

Thanks man, but if I would have been catching 12-14 inch trout, I would have been in by noon. Plus I wanted to see what the trout and reds would do all day long. That was my first time fishing there.
Pistol, Great report. Sorry for the swimming, but at least conditions allowed you to keep fishing. My guess is that a paddle leash is in your near future.
You have to love the folks that throw the anchor. Morons.
