Yesterday at the Pen I tested my rudder mounted transducer on my Hobie Revo. Everything tested well and I didn't notice any rudder pull or tracking issues. I also installed the larger Hobie sailing rudder which I found had better performance over the standard rudder. With all of the transducer problems I have read about I knew I did not want to mount my transducer to the hull, so I decided to install the transducer on the rudder. I am pleased with the results and now I just need to catch some fish.

Below are some pictures of my setup.

All the fish on the FF were in the deep holes in the Pen and water temp was 51 degrees.

Is this something you bought, or did you rig this yourself? I think this is the first I have heard of mounting the transducer on a rudder.

I had read about this type of mounting on other Kayak forums and like it compared to hull mounting the transducer. I just fabricated the mount based on what I read and pictures I had seen on other forms.

Nice set up. Another good alternative to the in hull mounting problems.

Very nice set up there. That might help with some of the problems that people are having.

That looks nice and I'm glad I've seen it. I guess I'll be going shopping this weekend to perform a similar surgery :)

I just ordered the sailing rudder now I just need to go buy some new electronics.....Did you buy the alluminum or just use a scrap piece laying around?

It was a scrap piece laying around my dad's workshop. However, I saw some flat AL pieces at Home Depot the other day that would work as well. Also, the transducer is about 1.5 inches from the rudder and is almost half way down the rudder. This can be changed if needed, but that is the measurements I got from the other kayaking websites.
