I was paddling across the bay and decided to throw a Chicken on a Chain off the back and troll on my way into Elmers Island bay ................. BAM .... pole bent in half ... drag screaming. Turns out the Jack Crevalle were running big time in the bay. A buddy and I each landed one and broke off 9 more. Tough to land Jack on 12 lb test and little inshore rods and reels. I fought one for an hour, it drug from the pass to the bridge and then broke me off on some pylons. There's no stopping those things. Tons of fun and a good day on the water. How do you post pictures ???

Very cool. They are sure a blast to catch. Hard to believe they aren't worth a damn to eat.

Check the little toolbar thingy (like my puter talk?) just under quick reply. I believe it has a button or box or whatever Quas calls it to add pics.

I also had a crazy day at Grand Isle (3-30). In the eastern most pass between Grand Isle and Grande terre during a falling tide, EVERY cast was a large (bullish) redfish. After about 1 and a half hours I landed 7 reds, smallest being 25 inches, and I hooked onto more and let some out of towners reel in the fish. I only keep two, as most were 27 inches or above. Porpoises were everywhere.

We went back the next morning and caught 1 red, 1 drum, and a crap load of sheephead. I went back later that afternoon on a falling tide and caught only hardheads. Strange.

I've seen stray cats turn up their noses to jacks left on the pier by someone who had to be told they were not eatable. They are cousins of the permit I believe (the jacks not the cats) and pound for pound there are few fish that will match their endurance. How about a Jack Cravelle turny, Jack Daniels would be a great sponsor...

A tourney would be fun but it would be tough to find em if they weren't running in the pass. Also, I think there would have to be some limits on the type of tackle used. If we would have had the right test and heavy rods and reels we could have landed at least 10. I don't know it was a blast and an experience for sure. The porpoises were everywhere yesterday too, but only sheephead and catfish as far as targeting the reds.
