Have never been to Da Pen, so I was thinking of making my first trip there next Saturday, Nov 13. Anyone wanna meet up? Is this the right time to start fishing that area?

I might be interested. Have to work that morning 8-12, but heard the bite turns on at dusk there. The Pen is definitely a cold weather spot. Once the water starts cooling down, the fish stack up in the deeper water there.

With the water around 60 degrees and 6 or 7 people fishing there yesterday, including a local with shrimp, there were only 8 trout caught. It might have had something to do with the lock being closed or the high barometric pressure but I think the trout just have not shown up yet.
You might have better luck than we did but it was a rough day of fishing yesterday.

If you hit the pen it's a $5.00 fee(unless it changed), you can pay when you get back in. There're always still closed when I launch, so I pay when I get back.

It is still the same Dave. I forgot that part.

I don't think the locks were closed yesterday. I was out there Friday and they were open. The locks are only closed for high water--that's not the problem now. NW wind for the last few days has the water gone. It's simply too early for the Pen. The water is no where near cold enough for the fish to move in. It will take a some more good cold fronts.

Darn, well I'm interesting in catching some trout and testing out my depth finder, I figured da pen would be a good choice. Anyone else know any spots for this time of year? I'm still considering Hopedale.

See Choupique's post about Hopedale in the "results from Where-y'ak" thread.
Don't think I'll be hitting Hopedale any time soon.

There were a good number of trout caught Saturday at Hopedale.

My dad and I tried the Pen yesterday. It was the first time out there for both of us. I was thinking we might catch a few trout with the cold streak but it was definitely not the case. It was extremely windy also. No trout for either one of us. I caught a nice drum and dad caught a sheephead and a couple puppy drums. I would wait a little while longer to go there if I were you.

Well, with all the bad reports I might just go ahead and skip the pen. Anyone up for Hopedale? Any other suggestions?

Hwy 1 is pretty hot right now between port fourchon and grand isle; reds or trout should be easy to come by.

Apparently Hopedale was the place to be last weekend. A friend of mine went with a few other folks and they all caught their limit on reds.
