15 registered 10 weighed fish in an epic day of fishing:

10. Big O = 3lbs
9. Choupique = 3.55
8. Greenwave = 5.75
7. castaway = 6.05
6. All_In = 7.30
5. Revredfish = 8.6
4. jonalford = 9.5
3. WACT = 10.05 (no flounder)!
2. Gnatless = 11.05 with flounder bonus
1. Where Y'ak = 11.35 with flounder bonus

I want to give shout out's to Can't Catch fish for doing the weigh in and to the fish for showing up despite a cold front and high barometer. And to the wind for laying down until about 10am by when most of the fish were caught. I'll try and rough out the Angler of the year standing.

Let me just add that those first four stringers were amazing - to think last year had a 13lb stringer!? Truly was an awesome tourney well worth the fee just to learn a new area. I caught most of my big fish by 10am but caught my biggest at the end of the day (about 4pm) while trying to catch the ever elusive flounder.

Where were most of the guys fishing and was there a bait that you found worked better than others? Impressive results indeed. Maybe next year will not be the day of the LSU Bama game.

Just a VERY unofficial tally here for angler of the year and a drum roll please (Corrected by ijuswannafish!!):

1) Choupique 80 + 10 = 90
2) Revredfish 54 + 18 = 72
3) Where Yak 45 + 26 = 71
4) All_In 50 + 16 = 66
5) Gnatless 40 + 24 = 64
6) Cast_Away 44 + 14 =58
7) Greenwave 42 + 12 =54
8) Breamkiller 46 + 6 = 52
9) Big O 42 + 8 = 50
10) TEfishmaster 32 + 6 = 38
10) ijuswannafish 32 + 6 = 38

sorry for the mistakes: Tommy I didn't have a written record of your attendance. Greenwave I was crosseyed when I typed these in, Gnatless I was too tired to go look up all your results since they weren't on the original list so I guessed! We'll work on official results soon but I think this is pretty close

Congrats to all. Those were some really nice trout y'all caught.

I fished Hopedale. Trout and flounder all caught on Gulp shrimp tight-lined on a jig head.

I struggled on trout, but had a great flounder day. I'm sure glad Fred, Jon and Rev didn't locate the flounder!

Great job guys. What a day on the water. I would have liked to have caught some fish but I didn't. I can honestly say the trout are not in the pen yet.

Rev, some of your additions don't add up for angler of the year. I know after a long day on the water that is bound to happen. I went back over the list for you and this is what I came up with. Tommy got the 1 point for making the early weigh in and Gnatless is right about his previous points.

Again this is an unofficial results listing.

1) Choupique 80 + 10 = 90
2) Revredfish 54 + 18 = 72
3) Where Yak 45 + 26 = 71

Just a plug about showing up for weigh ins. One point for showing up at Minimalist Challenge; fishing for 1 hour paddling back against that absurd wind; I felt silly at the time - priceless.

I'm still marveling at those epic stringers - where Y'ak held his ground at where Y'at but those guys brought their A game.
Now its time for me to praise the Lord have a great day gang.

Who was the 15th participant? I know 4 of the 5 not on the list were me, dad, Tommy and cant catch fish. Sorry after the long day yesterday I can't seem to remember your name.

Congrats to all the winners!

Fished Hopedale Lagoon and caught 2 trout, 4 redfish, and no flatties. Two trout lost at the boat before sunrise. Perfect conditions until about 9:30 when the tournament Gods turned the wind on. All fish caught on opening night MW killa squilla under a popping cork.

Great job Chris, and thanks for the directions to the pen .............. guess I should have ask for directions to Hopedale  The fish just weren't bitting at the pen. However I did talk to one yak'er (not in the club yet) he was fishing with dead shrimp on bottom and has 6/7 keepers. I did the earily weigh in and BIG_O had a very impresive stringer of big reds. To bad we were fishing for specs.

Great job Chris. Congrates. I don't think I have caught that many flounders in my life !!!! Good job. It was in your backyard. Probably won because didn't have that anchor DRUMFISH to haul around......Now I realize I should have came and got you at PAC ..... just saying

way to grind it out guys, I felt really discouraged after the first two hours in hopedale with the SLLLOOWWW / NIL action, bolted for a flounder spot, after only managing a rat red. Again congrats to Chris and all the winners!
Should have never put my finger in to taste that sweet water... had me un-inspired from the get go (and I certainly fished like a bum and got schooled!)... May have to change that tournament name to Where’sTheSalt!

we paddled through the area you were fishing late in the day it was full of some nice reds!

I caught most of my fish on Purple Haze Tsunami trolled behind the yak at about 2.5-3 mph. Caught a few on opening night bay chovie under cork, caught the biggest on smoke sparkle beatle under popping cork.

Should have tried some other colors as it seems the purple and gold was on fire both in the water and on the field.

The purple and gold combinations have worked really well the last couple of years. I have not duplicated it this year, but last year limited out on reds and got 16 or 17 specks on the LSU colored Bayou Chub. Never changed the bait the whole day.

Exactly where we were told to go but thought it was too early - rookie mistakes all day for me. So sorry All_In it's all my fault...

WACT thanks for being so open with your info I know the newbies to the area will appreciate it and maybe more people will line up for the excellent fishing at Where Y'at next year.

Oh dang. I was eyeing that spot, but decided against the long paddle. Doh!

How come you didn't launch at Dudenheffer's? Did you have high hopes for Hopedale canal too?

Thanks for sharing, Fred.

Ok, that sounds like another good reason not to launch there! I'm surprised, given the amount of trucks and trailers I saw parked there. I guess that's probably the guides who operate out of there? I know some members have previously posted about launching somewhere around there and paddling down Dudenheffer's canal. Any ideas?

Where Y'ak?

Captain "Dude" has his charter operation out of there and also, Captain Charlie Thomason is right next door. It's always a busy location with charters. The old Dudenhefer's marina site is for lease-if you want to launch bad enough, you can lease the whole place!

They don't allow launching there for liability purposes. They have reason to be skittish about that. Years ago an ice delivery man was killed by an auto while delivering ice to the marina. Even though they had nothing to do with the accident, they were still sued.

There's no other public areas up or down Bayou La Loutre. Pips or the Yscloskey Bridge are the two closest places and neither is close enough. I know, I've done both!

It does help to be a local with a few connections though--just saying!

I generally combat launch just north of the Dude's place. There is a spot where a camp used to be and an almost launch there as well. So far no problems with launching from there or parking on the side of the road.

I have talked to the Dude before as I have been knowing him for years. He would rather not have people launch at the property for liability reasons listed above
