Going to Cocodrie for the first time, where should I launch and fish? What are good baits and colors for the area?

What? Coon point? Wine Island Pass? I know you peddlers can go far, but that seems a bit much.

I understand. You need pedal power for that trip.

Pedal power won't get there. For that ride you would have to rope a porpoise and get a tow there.

It's gonna be windy Sunday 10-15 WSW to W with winds picking up this Friday. There are some pretty good spots down Montegut ... Bayou Barre Landing will get you to Billygoat Bay or Wonder Lake, the road behind Montegut School will bring you to the levee system for the game preserve, Lapeyrouse Canal above the locks will get you in to Madison Bay. Then there's Four Point Rd. that'll get you to the calm side of the Sweetwater Ponds. The end of Bayou Dularge Rd. and a short haul across the marsh to the east will get you in to the top end of Bay Long and the ponds or you can paddle down the bayou and get in to the marsh via a large cut under the power lines that heads out to Bayou Jones. Point Au Chien Rd. (665) above Montegut will lead you down to Island Rd where you can launch off either side or you can go to the end of the road and launch from the marina and head out towards Lake Chien. Then there's always Boudreaux Canal or Robinson Canal above Cocodrie. Tides will be zilch on Sunday so I think your best bet is gonna be to find where there might be some bait stirring about. I went out a week and a half ago and it was like the dead zone. I'm gonna head out tomorrow and scout about. I'll post some reports on what I find. I won't be in town this weekend so I won't be fishing the tournament. Good luck, get an early start, and keep a tight line!!

Just got back in from fishing Madison Bay and Lake Boudreaux. I think Madison will have potential for reds on Sunday since access to it will be from the west but no specks. The winds picked up earlier than expected ... most of the morning - east 12-16. Sunday it'll be out of the west. Lapeyrouse Canal is closed off by the levee. You can still get in from there, but you'll have to be an Egyptian and pull over the levee. There are some camps right on Madison Canal before you cross the bridge ... they may let you park there ... easy access from there to the north part of the bay. No reds today ... one speck near the mouth of Lapeyrouse Canal in Madison Bay. Another boat picked up two reds but they were using stink. I hated my trolling motor so I got rid of it and just drift fish or anchor. I threw top water and Gulp on a cork. Nothing on top. I moved to Lake Boudreaux via Bush Canal & Boudreaux Canal to the right side of the lake where I picked up another 15 specks on a cream DOA w/char tail under a cork 2ft. About half were caught in the lake itself and the others in the marsh. No size to them but a good meal. When I got out of the marsh around 12:30, the lake was rough and white capping. If I were gonna fish this Sunday, I'd consider fishing the west bank of Boudreaux from the Dulac side or the canals of Bayou Labut launching out of T-Irv's Marina, crossing the Navigation Canal & Bayou Grand Caillou in to the canals. The canals will offer protection from the wind and it's a short paddle from the Marina. The little canals off of Little Caillou between the Laperouse Store and Cocodrie should be pretty good also. And I still like entering the Sweetwater Ponds from Four Point Road. There are some trees so you should get a little protection. There was more bait in the water this trip, but not as much as there should be for this time of year. Grass beds are holding up minnows... go weedless or a small top water and you'll probably land a nice red or speck. If you're coming in to town Saturday, you might consider eating boiled seafood at either 1921 Seafood on Barrow St. or Big Al's on Grand Caillou Rd. Both or in Houma and have good seafood. There's also a Copeland's, Outback. Hooter's, Olive Garden on Martin Luther King. And a very good Thai Restaurant on Grand Caiilou Rd in the shopping center across from Patterson St. Now, last but not least. All I can say is ... you guys is lucky I'll be in San Antonio cause I'd be havin' me a nice new Pro Angler by the end of the day Sunday. Have tons o' fun!!!!

I'll be at my brother's camp in Dulac (Four Point road) on Saturday and Sunday. If I can remember, I'll post a report on water quality etc in Sweetwater Pond.
