A Modest Proposal:

*I don't own a kayak.....yet. (I'm working on that)
*I work for a guy who has spent a lifetime fishing Lake Pontchartrain/Rigolets/Lake Bourne. He knows where doormat flounder are stacked up RIGHT NOW, and he showed me a handful of spots to catch them. My knowledge of flounder habits allowed me to pick out a lot more likely places.
*some of the members here own multiple kayaks and may be looking for additional fishing partners.
*I'm willing to trade my knowledge & spots in return for an opportunity to fish alongside you - you on your best kayak and me on your "guest" kayak.
*I also own a F-250 pickup, making it easy for us to haul the kayaks around.

Any interested takers please email me.

valvguy, I had a problem with the whole line of Hobies with Mirage Drives when I first tried them. Guarantee I couldn't have gone more than a mile in one. I can paddle all day, but couldn't pedal. I think it was the Minimalist Challenge when I paddled along side of someone in a Hobie. Watching him was an eye-opener. I realized that in my test drives I had been pedaling too hard. Just relax and don't try to be a speed demon. I have compared it before to walking or running. My last demo was at the Family Day at St James Boat Club. I felt like I could have pedaled around for days in that Outback. That is definitely the next kayak on my list. Give the Outback another shot before you decide it's not for you.

Wow, what a great response! I had no idea there were so many flounder finatics in Louisiana. The way so many fishermen focus only on specks or redfish you'd think it was a state law or something. :)

It's late but I'll respond to all the invites tomorrow.

thx,

Now that's the way to reason with the better half.
The Outback is good but adjust the boat for you, it will make all the difference in the world. Take it easy when you start.

Add another to the pot. I don't get out as much as I want to between the family, house, and disc golf but I have 2 Ride 135's and my wife rarely wants to go. I'm not too worried about your flounder spots, though it would be a nice benefit, I just like heading out with someone else. I usually go on short notice and rarely plan trips more than a day or two in advance. Let me know when you want to go, because I can usually justify taking off if I have a reasonable excuse. A new fishing spot and partner is as good as any.

Stoneheart, lets hit some light when it cools down. I never did make it back out for lights after talking to you at Magnolia that day. I plan to hit it a few times this winter. Maybe even sooner than that. I'll drop you a line.

Redfinn - I can hook you up with my Momma's recipe for Flounder Fillet Stuffed With Crabmeat. It's easy as hell. Even proven Fish-H8R's like this recipe.

I'm a 6th generation Island Piney (a South Jersey redneck) and I got all kinds of seafood recipes - clams, oysters, fish, crabs.

hey Evabody - It's lookin' pretty good. So far I have tentatively got Saturday afternoon and Sunday pencilled in. Maybe tomorrow morning too! Woo-hoo!

So far I've run into a few roadblocks: bait logistics and tide logistics. If any a y'all ever read one of my fishing articles in Big Game Fishing Journal, you'll know that I always say "plan your fishing and fish your plan"....and have a Plan B, C, D, E, F.......

Any and all help is appreciated.
BAIT: in the Slidell/ Rigolets area, who has live bait? Gus, The Dock/ Deck/whatever, Rigolets Bait & Tackle? Also, do they have live minnows? Minnows are crack cocaine for flounder. But live shrimp, small pinfish, small croakers all work well too. Even frozen squid. Hell, I betcha could stick a hook in a turd and a flounder would bite it so long as the turd wasn't floatin'.

TIDE PREDICTION:
okay, okay, here's where I betray my true ignorance of all things Gulf. Since moving here over a year ago, the only fishing I've done is all offshore for tuna, red snapper and deepdrop Snowy Grouper & Golden Tilefish. That means I'm totally unfamiliar with Gulf tides. On the East Coast we have two high tides and two low tides a day.

But the only tidal prediction online site I could find listed that seemed to be anywhere near the Rigolets was for Shell Beach at Lake Borgne, which according to my Standard Mapping chart seems to indicate it's near Aligator Bend, right? Anyway, the online tidal prediction site seems to indicate there's only one low tide and one high tide for that area. What the hell?? Does the Gulf only get one low and one high tide a day?

I'm gettin' too old for this sh*t.

I caught a ride on Tailchaser's boat on Saturday and paddled alongside Redfinn's amazing Hobie on Sunday. They were great guys - I was lucky to fish with knowledgable people who had a Plan B when my flounder-fishing Plan A fell on its ass.

With all the paddling exercise I got on Sunday I think it's the start of getting rid of my keg stomach and whittling it down to a six-pack of abs.

In my experience, there's not much else like catching a red from a kayak. Big gar will give you a nice ride too.

Both days we saw a big gar slappin' the water in the Rigolets area.
