I pass that way every morning on my way to work. There is one place where the lights are on all night long...lights up the canal all the way to the marsh. What time would you be game to go?

MDR
09-19-2010, 07:29 PM
I would guess just before dark. Unless you have heard of a late afternoon bite that makes starting earlier a good idea. I may try to get down there with enough light to throw the cast net.

Moon phase is about 90% full. They may be feeding later at night.

That would make sense. Later it is then. Your neighborhood so I'll let you call the time and place to meet.

You are the one that has to travel, so you call the time.

We can meet at the old boat launch across from the truck stop parking area.

How does dark o'clock sound? I'll have to check the weather page for the corresponding time piece measurement.

Being in my own yard as well, I'm thinking I might have to join you fellas. Without having consulted the charts, I'm thinking that putting in at 7 allows enough time to do so in the light and it would be dark by the time we really got out on the water. Next issue: lights. I don't have anything rigged up on my canoe, but would a headlamp be considered adequate?

In a non-powered boat, I think all you are required to have is a light that you can use for signaling.

if you are human-powered and around powercraft, the minimum should be an all-around- 360 white light and a flashlight to shine at them, if needed for more signaling. Academy should have one cheap and can clamp onto your canoe somewhere.

Be safe out there guys.

yes BRB I agree that shoould be the minimum, but I was just repeating what I believe to be the minimum required by law.

MDR

As I recall only a white light is required.

It would be great to have you join us DOTM.

I'll run it by the wife, but I might be game after I finish up with Ultimate Frisbee. You gonna have your phone on your hip Joe or DOTM?

**Notice**

Anyone coming in on I-10 from Slidell, there ids no exit at Hwy 11/Irish Bayou. You can either go up to the Michoud exit and turn back going east, you can try to cross the median, or you can exit in Slidell and come in on Hwy 11.

If I'm not there by 7, I won't make it. Just got a call & need to help a friend with a boat lift. If it is the simple fix I suspect I can still make it. Otherwise, good luck.

well...or should I say oh well! mdr, laidback and i launched at 7pm. laidback was gone by about 9 and i left mdr about 10. it was nice and quiet, and it might not have been too bad if the wind wasn't blowing 20 mph from the southeast. needless to say no fish for me.

We must have just missed you Joe. We arrive about 7:15 just to see someone in a yellow yak with T motor leaving the launch. Who was that?

Anyway..... maybe we can catch you next time. Oh and yeah...... wind was a howling.

MDR
09-22-2010, 02:17 AM
That was me valvguy. The only good thing about the wind was keeping the bugs at bay.

I left about midnightish with only having picked up 2 11in specks. Got those on the old stand-by tandem spec rig. I should have thrown it earlier when the shrimp were running around and fish were busting about. As it was I threw everything I could think of during that time and only wound up with a couple of weak bites on a gulp skrimp. I guess they had enough live bait to keep them interested in that only.

In spite of not catching anything, just being out on the water was a good way to spend the evening. The wind was howling but you could tuck in behind the grass and it wasn't too bad. Kept the bugs away. Conditions were good, somebody just forgot to tell the fish.

That's one bad thing about fishing lights on a bright full moon. They aren't as likely to need the lights to feed.

Anybody ever want to go again just holler. I was working nights last night and couldn't go or I would have been there no matter what. I love night fishing.

I'm sorry I missed y'all but I was spent after Ultimate and my wife is a bit under the weather. When it cools off a bit more I'll hitting the canals around Eden Isles for some night fishing. I'll be sure to let you know when I head out Racechaser. Stoneheart was interested as well, but I have not seen him much lately.

So did you guys fish close to the launch or go South across the Pass and fish the camps?
