Fished point-aux-chenes yesterday afternoon (island road boat launch area and the other WMA boat launch) and came up empty. A couple of good bites on the spoon, but wit the shrimp I had no bites. What areas do you guys fish in point-aux-chenes? This was my first time fishing in my kayak, and it was very relaxing, but I want to go back fishing tomorrow and would like to catch a few. I am looking to go to point-aux-chenes, cocodrie, or dulac. Also open to freshwater for some sac-a-lait. Any suggestions?

PAC - the challenge is all the options. My fovorite spots have been bad this year - I think there was a big fish kill.
That being said - back on the old site if you access the web maps - there are a ton of launches listed. Transition should be kicking in but I'm beginning to believe what trout are alive left early to avoid the freeze. Reds - find the broken marsh and hammer the points with minnows, gold spoons, and soft plastic (avodado and chartreuse).
This time of year I catch most of my trout on a small avocado beetle tandem, or panfish assasin (tuxedo on top of a avocado cocahoe with chartruese tail). Fish the edges of moving water at the dams particularlly the flats rising up from the north and south of the watercontrol built into the road.
You can also launch off the Island but I don't work that area much - tons of reds by all reports.
From PAC Marina hang a right fish along the massive oyster reefs along the electric poles in the main bayou - watch for the birds for school trout. Work the bayou for trout and head into the marsh for some reds. I need to get back down there as I catch more limits this time of year in Point Aux Chein than everywhere else combined. The Island Road situation has messed up my fishing there big time.
PS - Just a fun fact: Point Aux Chene means - point of the dog and was an anglo insult to the cajun/indians living there. Point Aux Chein means point of the oak and was the real name (not possitive where the "i" goes in Chein but locals will love you for knowing the difference). You will however, crack up to notice the locals also mix it up since many don't know how to spell one or the other.
