View Full Version : Fly casting lessons
So I checked into fly casting lessons awhile back and it was pretty costly. So, I got to think. What if we had group of guys, I wonder if we could get some one to come out and do like a 3/4 hour class?
How many of you'll would be interested in fly casting lesson?
Anyone out here feel like there good enough to teach some rookies?
I could use lessons, the only time I have tried for reds on a fly, I just could not quite get it there, so after much frustration I switched to spinning gear and gold spoons and limited out...:)

Catch recently sent this out to the ff club members, so it looks as though something is possibly in the works:
Our club continues to grow and a few new members have asked me about a beginners casting clinic, call it CASTING 101, preferably before fall club trips and great fall fishing. I contacted Waddill and the only Saturday they have available in September is the 4th (Labor Day weekend). They are closed on Sunday. We could have it elsewhere on Saturday Sept. 11. Possibly even Sunday, Sept 26. Other club casting experts may be available other dates.
If interested, send me your name and dates available. This would be a 3-hour session and a maximum of 12-15 students. Club members would be free and get first divs. If there's room left, we would allow non-members for $12 (which would apply to pro-rated membership). The focus would be on basic casting mechanics, improving accuracy and distance, and fixing faults. If only 2-3 folks are interested, we can arrange something less formal between now and October.
Catch Cormier.

I would definitely be interested... I am sure I have some bad habits that need correcting.
I emailed Catch today about putting on a class for our members so once I get a responce I will let you'll know and start a new thread.

Hey guys, as Kurt and Domo mentioned, the Red Stick Fly Fishers will hold a beginners/novice casting clinic, a.k.a., CASTING 101, on Saturday, September 4. Time is 8:30am to 11:30am. Location is Waddill Refuge in Baton Rouge. Refreshments and handouts will be provided. We are currently limited to 14 persons so that we can provide more individualized attention. The clinic is free to RSFF members and $12 for non-members (which goes to your membership thru 2010).
For more details, go to www.rsff.org, click on Forum, and then on Meetings, Outings, and Events. Or go to this link directly:

You do need to "sign up" in advance... just shoot me an email and I'll add you to the list.

Damn, out of town this weekend. I'd like to polish up my cast for sure. I can put some distance out but I still tie far too many wind knots for my taste. I've been casting in my yard a bit focusing on mechanics but trees and concrete make really letting loose difficult. My dad is working on becoming a certified instructor so he gave me some tips, but it would be nice to have someone with me while casting. Good luck you lucky 14.

So, any news on if they are gonna provide a BCKFC member's casting lesson? I'm sure we'd be willing to pay them and maybe see about dual membership. IDK Just a thought.
Yak aholic see the post on page 1 by Catch for now that will be your best option

I'll see what the ol' calendar on the wall has available. But it looks like it may have to be a Sunday afternoon sometime... soooo many things going on between now and December. Almost every Saturday booked and even a few conflicts. But if the interest is there, we'll certainly try and make it happen.
