With the tropics heating up, don't want to be out there if the wind is forcast to get overwhelming.
Have Hobies with pedals.
Thanks.

I've been out in 20-25 mph wind in the Hobie in the Gulf in 6ft. seas. Fun ride, but very difficult to fish. The yak was like a cork out there, just went right over the waves. In places where there are more objects around it would be more challenging and you would need to be careful not to get against anything. It would get bad quickly if the yak could not move with the water. I don't usually catch much when the wind is above 15 mph, probably because the water gets too muddy.
I think this varies by yakker. It just depnds upon your yak and your comfort level. With the trolling motor I can put up with a little more wind than I would be able to paddling. Trying to paddle against 20 mph + winds just becomes too much work to be considered fun. As several folks have heard me say, I hate fishing in the wind. Muddy water, missed casts, getting turned sidewise to have waves breaking over the side, etc.
With all that being said, anything in the 15-20 mph range for an extended period is going to have me really questioning making the drive from BR to the salt.

+1, add 2 more hours from El-lick.

At a tourny you can tell what too much wind is by seeing how many yak's are loaded (along with their owners) when you get to the weigh in 2 hrs. eairly:lol::lol: Just joking of course about the owners NOT the part about the yak's:lol:

30mph inshore is my limit.... 17mph offshore (unless tournament; then man up!)

"17"?? Is there some kind of scientific experience involved?

30 MPH winds (blowing away from the launch, of course) in the yak during a trip to Cocodrie in Jan 2009 led me to quickly purchase a boat. That was too much wind for my enjoyment. I still have the yak and fish with it when the flags aren't ripping to pieces. Very few things make me get really mad... crossing the bridge into Baton Rouge every morning and crosswinds in a yak just about do it for me.
