OK I'm sick of my leaking canvas cooler bag, but I love my milk crate and won't sacrifice it for a cooler. So what is a revredfish to do?

I need to fill this space with a cooler:

I thought why don't I find a container to fit in my cooler bag?

Easier said than done. After several attempts here at the house (my wife even was willing to sacrifice her crafts container but it was too old although would have fit perfect) I drove all over Houma, Hobby Lobby, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, Target, Wally World, Academy, Sams...

Then at Sam's just as I was thinking maybe I need to give up and just find a container and make it into a cooler (inspired by a failed project of All_in's) then I saw it it was beautiful::yes:

Ok let's hope the wife wants the other 11 items because I've already spend bunches today on soccer gear.:hide:

Then let's hope it will actually fit the kayak. lots of wishing going on there

$20 for the whole kit and kaboodle (and the wife loved the other 11 items including the loaf of bread container that I thought was pretty cool too).

Then I threw these into the mix (again with some helpful teamwork from All_in)

Next some foam donated by All_In

No project is complete without duct tape and BAM:

I can't wait to try it out it may be a little bit of a barrier between me and my crate but no more throwing all my ice bottles out like I had to do at Redfish Rumble, and last week my 5 reds, 5 trout and 1 flounder totally filled the bag with ice in it.

Now I can hold some fish - let's hope I need it

TIE IT DOWN...

I can see it getting a bit top heavy and tipping over if you fill it with fish. That's the last thing you want to happen at the end of the day with a 30#+ stringer of reds.

Get a 12v fan, open the top, put fan on top of ice pointing in your direction... Yakable A/C!!! I agree with above, but fairly sure you would tie it down.

Great suggestion but - it sits about 5 inches down in the well and has to be -shoved in- plus significant amount of ice will be down in there plus I'll likely throw in a gallon of water. I'm thinking a nice ice slurry all day long. I'll keep and eye on it if it is a problem I will strap it down with a bungee.

I am testing it's cooling power tonight just put about fifteen small ice bottles in it - normally would fill my bag it only takes up about a quarter of this thing

I have an ocean yak too. I am using the front hatch with double lawn bags and frozen water bottles, clamped and tucked in. Don't get caught in the wind with your fish castle. I do like your milk crate very much.

You are absolutely correct when you said no project is complete without duct tape. Looks good.............

good point on the wind. but I'll just lay the rods down and let the cooler be my trolling motor and fish over the back end....

crawling back and forward to the hatch is a real downer when the trout bite is on - that's been a while but I remember what it was like before January 2010. Now if someone would creat a water proof trash hatch for the front in they would have my support.
