has anyone been to the state park lately? How's the beach looking? Any signs of the fishing pier being rebuilt?

I think Quas was there a week or so ago so when he gets back he could give you a first hand update. He is out of town until Saturday or Sunday I think so give him some time.

The fishing pier was open when Quas and I were there a couple of weeks ago. The beach was not open yet but they said they were hoping for it to be open by May. One guy caught a Big Drum while we were there, it was at least 35". We didn't even get a bite though. Has anyone ever fished those rigs just offshore of the State Park? I was interested in giving them a try when the weather gets better.

ReelThrill the rigs are about 5 miles offshore .... I know you have a pedal drive but that's still a good trek. My roommate and I camped on the beach on the West Side of the island this past weekend. Caught 7 reds off the rock jetty between 20-28". But main point being, the beach was beautiful and we talked to man from the dredging company and he said they were finishing up. We just tented it up on the beach and no one told us anything. Probably illegal but the dredge worker told us he hasn't seen any po po on the beach. Woke up Saturday to howling wind and hit the canals behind Elmers Island without any luck.

glad to hear the pier is up. Does it go out as far as it used to?

I'm not sure how far it used to go out, but it goes out a couple hundred feet off shore now if I were to guess.

the bigger question about GISP is: did they find a ranger to replace the only one who did everything there? Last summer the big guy musta had enough and left, from what I heard. All the other rangers refused to even get out of their trucks last year, from what I saw. I hope it stays cleaner than last year on the beach. I can't wait for summer-time trout fishing down there to kick in.
