I demod a Hobbie Pro-Angler and a Hobbie Outback on the same day a few months back, and I prefered the Outback hands down. I found it much faster and easier to manuver and just as stable. The PA was too much boat for me.

As I tell my kids, do as I say not as I do. I bought the Pro Angler without ever getting in a kayak and I've been very, very pleased. BUT - Wisdom comes from the mouths of Quas and the other members that say to test drive before you decide and buy! Good luck!

I have the Pro as well as the Outback. There is more room (comfort) in the Pro but it is a slower vessel to move thru a body of water. For every day fishing I prefer the Pro Angler but for tournament day I believe the Outback will be the ticket. I say that because of the speed issue. Thanks to all_in I have seen the light (putting the turbo fins in the Outback) to cover more area.
I am still working on getting duplicate gear for each yak so that I don't have to transfer from one to the other. Have to wait until mid August to finish that up...work sucks.

Demo them all, they all look nice on the rack but if your gonna spend money wait and demo to make sure they are what you think they are.

As the others have said, demo as many as you can. Ask a lot of questions of the club members. Do the research on line, there are hundreds of forums with reviews on every model made.
Good luck.

"fat guys" do perfectly well in the Outback, and it can be loaded onto a roof top solo...

Also keep in mind that stability is usually waaaaay over-rated by new folks.

Maybe that's one thing i'm concerned with, stability.Having fished in a 18' boat for a year,a kayak looks a bit ackward at glance.I'm not only new at kayak but i'm pretty new at fishing, only been fresh water fishing for about three years, and got into salt water last year.I was looking forward to going to grand isle this year, thanks BP. for screwing that up.

Stability is getting more important for me as I fish in more and more dangerous places.

I agree with Quas.
I just picked up a 16' Ocean Kayak Cabo on Craigslist ($400 w/ two paddles and two seats)
I took it on the Amite with no gear in it and a vest on and tried walking, side seating, standing, jumped out and getting back on top of it in deep water and rolling it back over incase it rolls over. You get use to stability. I am taking it out for the fist time fishing this weekend. Hope she works out well!

Hard to beat the PA but it's kinda a beast to load & off load. Love the stability and storeage. Still thinking about getting one . Love my outback but I rolled it over a week ago. Can't see a roll over in the PA. It would be great if/went I get that party barge as a "mothership" !!!!

Best if you have a trailer hitch. Get a bed extender, let it stick out the back...

Whichever one you choose, I think you will be happy that you have the Mirage drive. I have the Revo. I tested the PA. The PA is definitely more comfortable, which to me is pretty important. However, I had already bought the Revo before the PA came out. I have launched in many places that I was glad I did not have a PA. Every boat has a trade off somewhere. Determine what is most important to you and go with that. The Outback is plenty stable, but not as stable as the PA. I believe you will find the PA more comfortable to fish in also. You just won't get there as fast and will have more trouble handling the PA when launching or picking up. Both are awesome fishing machines. Good luck.

After demoing some boats, I decided on the PA simply because I wanted the ability to stand and sight fish without fear of taking - another - swim (took one in my Pelican). Not that the Outback isn't stable, but I have tested my PA in some pretty rough water and still had no trouble standing. I'm also a bit clumsy at times so that was one factor I considered.

Yeah,i'm also a bit clumsy,so i think is one reason i liked the pa. I won't be going offshore or nothing like that, and i wont be in a big hurry to get anywhere. The only thing i like about the outback over the pa is if you want to paddle a bit the outback seems easier to paddle.I will definately try them both before spending the money.Decisions, decisions!!!!

That's definitely true! The PA isn't going to be much of a paddling boat! When I first got mine, I left the two rails off the sides to make it a little easier to paddle. I only put them on before my last trip because I realized how little I was paddling anyway.

Didn't want to bring it up but I did witness the "Sandman Dance" when we last were fishing lake Catherine. He was standing up in PA nad was just south of me and saw him start this type of "dance". I almost pissed on myself laughing so hard. Really thought he was going in. Man I wish I had my camera runny. That was some funny stuff. Come on Sandman fess up you almost went swimming that day !!!!!
