I'm thinking about purchasing a fishing kayak. Any suggestions for a rookie - size, make, fishing locations, etc. I'm 6 ft. 200 lbs. I would be paddling.

Thanks,
Pops

OK, first welcome to the madness!

Choosing a kayak ain't as easy as it sounds. Especially with no known info; such as your height and weight as well as if you would rather peddle than paddle. Or if you have any inspirations on making this a part time motored vessel via a trolling motor. Also, do you have any problems lifting or loading a heavier kayak. Some people look at the kayak's weight in their search as others would paddle the Queen Mary if it were to give them just a little more leg room.

So, tell us a little about yourself and I am sure you will get more suggestions than you were ever looking for.

The list is almost endless. There are so many makes, models and sizes avalable. Do you want to paddle or peddle. Your height and weight will be a factor. Do you want speed or stability or something inbetween. Backpacker in Baton Rouge has some demo days coming up. Give them a call to try some different models. In Lafayette, PacknPaddle is a great store to do business with. They will let you demo a boat for a small fee. Fee is waived if you buy from them. In New Orleans, Massey's has a demo day coming up, I think. Also, depending on how nice you ask, some members will let you try their boats. And by the way, Welcome to the addiction.
