Couple of questions:

1. How far down Hwy. 1 can you go before you have to pay a toll?
2. Are there toll booths or do you buy a pass?

Answers: 1) You can go all the way to Leeville and then you will have to turn right to get on the new bridge. 2) There are no toll booths just video cameras to record license plate and vehicle info. You can purchase a toll pass online at www.geauxpass.com, or stop in Golden Meadow on right and buy toll pass or stop at the Tyde's (old Bobby Lynn store) and there is a machine right inside the door to enter your info in and pay with credit card. Only available as long as the store is open. The toll is only for round trip and you can buy multiple trips at all those locations. The cost for a regular truck or car is $2.50 then additional cost if you have trailer depending on number of axles.

If you go straight instead of getting on new bridge, the road will end where the old bridge was. They will be putting a new public landing in there but it accessible now and not a bad launch spot for the yak.

Hope this helps....

Also, if you don't have a pass, you can cross the new bridge and fish, then stop and pay on your return trip back.

And if not a good record keeper you may want to pay online because I have read a couple of complaints about paying toll and getting letter but not having receipt to prove it. It may only happen .05% of the time, but if it happens to you ,it will chap your but I guarantee.

When you pay at the machine located at Tydes, the machine does give you a receipt and yes I would hold on to it for a couple of days anyway. The machine also only takes credit cars, so that would serve as a receipt even if you could not find the one that it spits out when completed. You could just go online and have the proof as well.

You can fish either side of Leeville where it cuts off. You will have to go over the toll bridge to fish the south-side past Tyd's. FYI, I stopped at 3 places on the way down to where I fished. All 3 machines were malfunctioning. Finally, I said forget it and decided to pay online later. I went there to fish, not search for a working machine to pay them to cross a bridge. Dang Troll Bridge. Pay online and forget the headache.

Come summer time, I'll buy a Geaux Pass, for convenience.

I'm confused.

I went down and didn't see a toll booth so I went to Fourchon, fished and came home. I assumed they weren't charging tolls for some reason.

So, I was supposed to stop, get out and pay? Picture of my plate? Should I expect a ticket and a fine?

First time I've ever been on a toll road without a toll booth.

You have 4 days to pay the toll or get the ticket ($75 I think) ... go online and pay post toll. You will be glad you did. I know several that have gotten ticket in mail already.

At one point the "bridge authorities" were considering including the toll tags that work for the Crescent City Connection (CCC) bridge in the mechanisms for paying to cross the bridge on the way to Grand Isle. Anybody know if I can use my CCC toll tag or will I need to pay some other way to get down Highway 1?

I think I read that you could but if you go the website www.geauxpass.com all your questions regarding that should be answered.

yes the toll is taken from CCC toll tag automatically.

I went down last year and was looking for the toll booth too. Had my wallet on the dashboard, ready to pay. Little did I know that the "booth" is about 2/3rds of the way through Golden Meadow on the back road. I found it later. It actually looks more like a roadside rest stop than a toll booth. Anywho, I never heard from them and I presume they couldn't get a picture of my plate because I had two yaks hanging out of the back of the truck.

Later, I got the pre-paid automatic gizmo that you put on your winshield. There are extra costs involved. You have to pay for the gizmo and pre-pay about $20-$30 "credit" on the thing. All in all it was about $40 or $50. You can use it on two different vehicles so have the plate numbers of the two vehicles you might use.

Of course since we sold the camp and started this major-horrific renovation, I haven't been down there so this little gizmo is on my windshield serving no purpose. Woe is me.

Dayum, first I've heard Obama was responsible for this too. That dude is everywhere. When I find out he caused global warming and marsh land loss I am going to kick his butt.

I'm guessing they spent umpteen million $ to keep a viable road to Fourchon? Now they're trying to recoup the cost? What happens when Hwy 1 btw there and Grand Isle goes under?

Same thing I did. I was in my son's truck using the bed extender for the fist time, which is probably why I didn't get a ticket.

The bed extender is the way to go. Concealment from the Hwy 1 toll eye in the sky is an added benefit.

The reason for that is when the bridge first opened they were not charging a toll. The toll enforcement did not go into effect until a later date - so that is why you got off without getting a ticket. Now the yak idea of hanging out the bed of the truck might work ...... Just saying !

Mung,

Everyone knows global warming is bush's fault :p

Surf,
Any good conservative should support a lower cost more efficient way to collect tolls - besides tolls mean the people who use a road pay for it no robbing Peter to pay Paul ;)

 now moving right along - they suspended the toll for awhile so that locals could take further action to prepare for it, so that negotiations could occur on lowering the fees for locals. I would not count on your Kayak preventing you from getting nailed - certainly don't need state troupers pullin gover kayakers to confirm toll payments right:confused:

Yet another reason to have gotten a truck, toll scofflaw assistance. I blew it again.

Kingfish: GO to geauxpass.com. YOu can pay online. It's $2.50 for a car without a trailer now until 96 hours after you drive through. IT will be a ticket and a fine after that time. Possibly might send you a reminder in the mail and then fine you if you don't respond. There's no toll booth but I bet you saw all those cameras when you got on the bridge by Tyd's and Gail's heading to Fourchon. THey have a picture of your car, your plate and probably, YOU, too. Pay it before it's too late.

I had to call the CCC office today to give them my new card exp date. I ask about Hwy 1 toll. Was told the CCC tag will work, so if anybody has a CCC tag you are all set. Just cost more.

Now ya'll have me wondering if I was lucky or robbed. The last time I went down there I had my pirogue sticking out the back with my tailgate down. But I also have a CCC (I still call it the GNO) tag on my windshield. I didn't see/couldn't find the hidden unmarked secret toll booth and figured my plate was masked so I just went my merry way and hoped for the best. I guess they got me on my CCC tag anyway.
Why is the toll booth hidden? Are they just hoping to collect more in tickets?! Plus what if you drive down hwy 1 and not the "new" road through golden meadow.
Ok. I'll shut up for now.

I am not sure why y'all are saying it is hidden (lol).... It is just lots of video cameras - Actually pretty obivious. They are right as you make the turn (maybe 25 feet) off of the old Hwy#1 onto the new bridge (look up). This is in Leeville, not Golden Meadow. The first chance to buy a pass is in Golden Meadow but there are several others including one right at the old Bobby Lynns on the left by the new bridge. The kiosk is right inside the door on the right side and you pay with credit card and you are in and out in about 1 minute with your receipt. Really pretty easy. You can also purchase the pass after you have made the trip on the same machine, you just push "post pass" as one of the button options. I still say it is too easy just to go to www.geauxpass.com and buy $10 bucks worth and be done for a while. Your record will be your credit card receipt.

I like the idea of having extra credits for your trips before you go, Branch. No, you can't miss that box of lights and cameras all over the place on the Leeville side.

My only thoughts as to why no toll booth are: (a.) they haul some big huge A$$ petroleum stuff down there on trucks and (b.) if they evacuate the lower area, they don't want anything in the way slowing down traffic or lanes being blocked by things too big to fit throughthat are being removed. Still, they could have had a coin basket or something on the side of the road.

That's trying to logically reason the whole thing. I'm sure the real answer is much different.

I am sure the whole thing has got something to do with helping pay for the new healthcare bill...lol. Did y'all see that some restaurants in California have already started adding a special line item on the tickets to start covering the costs of the new healthcare bill to the employers? That is just crazy...
