I replaced about 7' of an old tapered leader that was getting battered with the same length of new 12 lb. Seaguar fluorocarbon leader. Three flies snapped off on my fishing trip last Friday. The flys did not come off at the knot. The line breaks were accompanied by losses of 6 to 12 inches from the end of the line each time. I thought this fluoro was supposed to be tough, and I have never had this happen with regular mono leaders. Any clues? Maybe I got a bad roll of fluoro leader?

Unless you're fishing really deep, shorten your leader a good bit. Freshwater trout need that long leader cuz they're spooky spooky fish. You can cast better and catch fish using a short 3-6 foot leader, length of your choice.
My other thoughts are: A. That foot above your knot may have been too thin as it tapered down. Could be a design flaw from the factory.
B. The line you bought may have been dry rotted. Some of that fly stuff sits on shelves for years. Go check out Puglia's fly selection to see a good example of this.
I'd try tying my own leaders out of regular fishing line. You just need 2-3 different weights of line.

I use 20lb seaguar for my tippet section and never had any problems. Seaguar makes some new and improved flouro too that might be worth checking out.
